I think I wanna keep the kit as is. I KNOW it just could be novel and that's why I'm fixated with it, but let me have my fun! lol I listened for that 1 minute crash. I see it, but to me it kinda adds to the… darkness of the situation. Dark and irregular. Real. Ya know?

As far a verb on the kit, I wonder if it isn't just part of that brush kit sound. I kinda like it! (That was directed at no one in particular)

Andy, before I do a bunch of cutting and snipping, or AUTOMATING I found a setting on one of my compressors that said Soft Jazz Singer, or something like that. Plugged that puppy in and I think, THINK it made a difference with the sibilance issue. If you get a moment, let me know! Or if anyone gets a moment!! Let ME KNOW!!!

I'm getting pretty happy with this. Loved the idea of clearing up that voice. So take out mids eh?> Wow… who'd thunk it!!!

Wait!! Correction! I just figured out how to change the volume with out having to ride the friggin fader! Everyone knows, I'm sure, but you create a group folder with voice in it, and then just move the string like thing, which rides the volume of the track, up and down as needed!!!! After all this time!

Anyway, here's the latest…

Graham, I'm a little late to the party 8-) Sounds good to me as usual! I'm sittin' here reading this about 'troubles' vocal processing, and I'd feel remiss if I didn't mention a product on sale until the first, $99, at plugin alliance. (Door 6.)

The dynamic spectrum mapper. Basically, it takes a snapshot of your voice or whatever you put through it, creating a curve that it uses to compress the frequencies so they stay inside the curve and don't go over, using eq and compression and also has a limiter. So now you don't need to take out the mids, you can actually increase them, because it will compress to the natural curve of your voice. It works on much more also than vocals, and there are presets for the curves. You don't need to ride a fader or adjust the string thing or whatever that is.

It's killing me too, Fun :?

Steve!! This is like the last scene from it's a wonderful life. "Billy!? Mary!? "That's right, George. Once folks found out you were in trouble everyone just wanted to come and help!" Hark the herald angels sing....

you get the idea. the whole gang. Here at Christmas...sorry. tired. Tad drunk...

Love ya STEVE!!!

So Len, do you have this mysterious machine that does such magical things? My question is, DOES IT WORK?

sounds GREAT!! Thanks for that...(in a whisper...if it works...)

No, but I have the Melda Mautodynamic eq which is similar, and also on sale for $93. The melda is more "cluttered", same principle type of thing. They are both dynamic eq's. I bought the melda when it was on sale and the plug-in alliance one wasn't.
They both have presets that let you "eq" your track to another track, in other words, if you like an eq on a certain singer for example, you'd have to use a preset analysis just for vocal, but for a mix, at least in the melda you can analyze a track from a cd and then apply the eq curve to your track. For obvious reasons that is not so great imo, what works there probably doesn't have the same "effect" on yours. With the melda it isn't quite so automatic, you have to find and tune the eq compression yourself from the analysis, part of the more clutter method.

They are basically compressor+eq. They are not multiband compressors. They are more surgical. For example if you have a real problem with 1.7khz for some reason, it's too piercing, you can set your Q to narrow and compress that one freq. until it sounds compliant and not piercing, that's with the melda. The method is a little different on the plugin alliance, it basically limits your signal from going over your analyzed curve. You may also boost the freqs on your problem freq because the limiter keeps it from going above the curve. The beauty is that you are not processing and ruining the whole spectrum for a minute problem, like many de-essers oftentimes do.

There is a 30day free trial on both if I'm not mistaken. Just make sure they aren't off sale if you decide to purchase one of them.

Like all tools, they are all magical if they are the right one's for the job, lol!

*edited to add a review from sos magazine (2009)

It appears as though the parametric eq isn't actually eq'ing the signal, it's adjusting the curve. Which is even smarter imo, no eq phasing artifacts. I had to think about that one. :geek: That means if your low end was thin, instead of using eq to boost it you are raising the threshold on the curve allowing more bass while you turn up the gain, and the other freq's would still be controlled by the same area set by the threshold of the curve as before if they were left alone. Cool!
