How’d You Think It Would EndHeard on the news, my cousin StuMade Reverend Chalmers paylaw on his tail, He was holed up, in some old shack on highway 8Now me n Stu, had always heardStories when we were kidsWhen guys ran 'shine, cross the county the lineThat’s where they always hidWhen I showed up, Stu’s scattergunHad peppered the sheriff’s carLawmen ‘round the back, of that old shackThought Stu couldn’t get farThat sheriff gave, him one last chanceTo drop his heat and come on outHe knew why Stu, did what he didBut he still yelled good n loud“how’d you think it would end, the rule of law don’t bendYou won’t hurt no one again, how’d you think it would end”I had a plan, went up and askedThe sheriff to let me go inTold him I vowed, to get Stu outCos I cared about my kinWell, they searched me, and said I hadNo more than ten minutes timeSo I told Stu, “we’re flesh n bloodAnd sinners must answer for their crimesSo how’d you think it would end, the rule of law don’t bendYou won’t hurt no one again, How’d you think it would end”those moonshine men, were never caughtCos of the tunnel ‘neath the floorSo me n Stu, squeezed on throughCame out by a gassed up FordAnd by the time, the law wised upWe were long gone down the roadWhen he came in, that sheriff grinnedWhen he saw my simple note“how’d you think it would end, the rule of law don’t bendThat preacher won’t hurt no one again, how’d you think it would end”I heard when he scattered the reverend’s ashes on the windThe undertaker said ”how’d you think this would end”…©2007 Robert George
