How do I make it so the songs can be "Streamed AND Downloaded"?
TAXI sent me an email promoting their TV show today. It said, "Want Your Song Heard by the Woman Who Was Instrumental in Launching Sheryl Crow's Career? If you'd like to have shot at having Judy hear and critique your song on today's show, please send us an email with a link to song we can Stream AND Download if it is chosen at random for the show. DO NOT send MP3 attachments, please! All song links must be emailed to: Music_News@TAXI(dot)com"
How do I set up a situation so that TAXI and other people can "Stream AND Download" my songs?
In response to the above TAXI request I sent the webpage address (URL) of my TAXI profile page. This shows my song in a player device. I don't know whether that will let them "Stream AND Download". Also, to get to my profile page, anyone would need my TAXI password. TAXI can probably get around that for their TV show but how could I set up the same situation for pitching the song outside TAXI?
I don't want my songs playable online by the public so I don't want them on something like MySpace [unless they can be passworded there].
I have a website so could put my songs on a passworded page there.
But how do I make it so the songs can be "Streamed AND Downloaded"? Is there a well-known player device I should install? Is there a standard download button I can link to the file? Thanks.

Any streaming site that allows downloads will do. Reverbnation, SoundClick, Myspace, Bandcamp, and many more can host and download your MP3 tracks. Soundcloud allows you to link folks to private tracks that you can make downloadable, and a free account is available, which is cool, cuz their player works on mobile handsets. (you can also upload full resolution WAV files, but folks have to DL them to play and hear them at full rez) You can also use a file sharing site such as YouSendit; only people that know/have the link can download it. Taxi should be able to DL anything from your Taxi hosting page without your changing any settings, so all you need to give them is the proper link. Mine looks like this:

Re: How do I set up so TAXI can stream/download my songs
Thnaks for those tips. I'll explore them.
It's interesting what you say about giving taxi my profile page link. I did just that. I went to the TAXI page that showed my profile and let me play a song of mine. I grabbed the page address http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.php?userid=me but it looked so generic that I doubted it would lead them to that page, so I tried entering it in my browser. Then apart from demanding my sign-in ID and password [which I figure the TAXI staff don't need] it did take my to my page.
That doesn't make sense. userid=me could be anyone. I guess it was reading my ID from a cookie in my browser.
So, how did you get the address example you gave for yourself?
Thanks for the help.

Ah, it would appear that "userid=me" is a generic address that requires a login; I believe there are directions in the help/FAQ at Taxi.com for claiming a unique username for your hosting page, which needn't be the same as your screen name on the forum. I just type "http://taxi.com/mojobone" and the browser parses it into the link you saw above.
There are some good reasons not to keep your Taxi hosting site hidden; there are some regular forum lurkers who might be looking and listening for something special, and you never know if you might be it. There is also a "Best Of Taxi" roundup that Taxi clients can listen to that hidden pages aren't eligible for. Opportunities to get your music heard are the reason we're all here, and anytime you can save five bucks.....that's a latte.
