The shortest turnaround for me was 2 days (Dispatch), and the longest was a few months.

I'm with Mojo, Matt and Michael McAllister on some of those timelines. Generally for me, it's first come, first serve. If you're trying to give a listing party time to review tracks, I would think that three weeks to a month is reasonable to keep it in your mind that they may come back with interest.

I agree with that. Reality is a lot of forwards will not result in contacts (not Taxi's fault, just the way our industry is) so I would go for the numbers as far as submissions. That is, assuming you feel the track(s) are reasonably on target, of course.

My take is usually go for the bird in hand. If you have a personal relationship with a good library (e.g. solid track record) who might want to sign the track, I wouldn't hesitate based on just a forward unless there were other factors such as exclusivity vs. non-exclusivity.

Yes, if the forward was non-ex I don't bother waiting, I get that song out there working for me as often as possible. If the forward was for exclusive, I'll hold that song one to two months. I wouldn't submit to 5 EXCLUSIVE listings in one day (or even 1 exclusive and 4 non-ex)... that's a little outside my professional box.

Great idea Kayle, writing another to replace/have ready when you sign one somewhere else while you're waiting to hear about an exclusive forward. I wish I had that much discretionary time.

I think of submissions as filling out job applications/sending out resumes. You never know which or if any will result in a call back. So for me personally, submitting the same song to multiple exclusive Taxi listings is OK. (JMHO)... However, doing that with DIRECT submissions to libraries would, IMHO, be unprofessional.

That's how I see it. Everyone has to do what is in their own comfort zone.
