How long to wait on a track after forward?

Hello everyone -

I'm new to the TAXI forum.
I've had quite a few forwards of my submissions since joining TAXI in October, I would like to know how long is appropriate to wait after my track gets forwarded if the client does not contact me before I can consider that track MINE again?

I do not want to lose these tracks forever if the client does not want them, some could be re-submitted to other TAXI listings and some I could use for my own releases.

Any thoughts?

I'm thinking maybe 6 months after being forwarded with no contact from the clients might be enough time for me to re-submit the track to other listings?

It's an interesting topic, often debated here. I defer to the veterans. My take is keep pitching as much as possible. If you've pitched to an exclusive listing, I'd hold off for a year. BUT, there's also the school of thought that you pitch often and then commit when you get a good opportunity. Someone made the analogy of treating it like looking for a date. Do you call one person and wait for them to call you back. Or after a few weeks to do try someone new? If candidate A finally calls back but you are happy with candidate B, its A"s loss, not yours.

Hi Dean, and welcome

How you manage things is entirely up to you, but a forwarded track is yours until it has been signed somewhere. There's no way of knowing when or if you will be contacted by the entity to whom the track was forwarded. IMO you keep pitching until you get a deal for the track.

I would submit it immediately if it fits another listing. In fact, I have a few forwarded pieces that fit some upcoming listings that I want to submit to so I'm going to send them out as well. Sometimes, I start working on my next submission before I've submitted my current submission because I never want the pipeline to run dry. The forwards will happen, the returns WILL happen and the contacts may happen some day; but that doesn't mean you should slow down.

I hear you - I certainly do not slow down on the writing - my output right now is higher than it's ever been.

I just want to do my best to get as many tracks actually USED as I can.

If the forward is for an Exclusive listing, you've got a couple of options. You could hold off on submitting the song to other listings for a month or so. I use to do that. I think I use to take them off the shelf for about 90 days after the forward. However, considering the frequency (or lack) of contacts from forwards, I've since decided that taking anything off the shelf is not having it work for me. I need my music out there on the street corners looking for customers.

If I've written something for an Exclusive listing, I won't send it to my current Publishers/Music Libraries. I will, however, submit it simultaneously to multiple Exclusive and Non-Exclusive listings even after a forward. I figure first-come first-served. After a significant amount of time has elapsed without hearing from an Exclusive forward (like 90 days) I will then pitch it to my current Library contacts. Previous to that period, I will be happy to sign it to any new Library contact.

If the song becomes "off the table" because you signed it elsewhere via a TAXI forward, and you are contacted by a Library, you can politely explain that between the time TAXI sent it to them and their response, the song was snatched up by a different Publisher. Let them know you would be very happy to quickly create more just like it for them.

Exactly what Russell said. The first song gets signed, and you open a dialogue with the second publisher or library about sending them something similar. Win-win situation.

I would never wait to hear back on a forward. If something suitable came up, I'd submit it again.
