How to add metadata to Wav files

For years I've thought WAV didn't save any metadata ever. It appears I was wrong.

Re: How to add metadata to Wav files
You can do it with common programs like Adobe Audition and Sound Forge.

I use mp3tag and its free. Right click on wav file and bam! easily edit data on any music file format.

What I don't know is if you add tags to your wav files using one of these methods and then send the wav file to someone else such as a publisher, if whatever they use to listen to your songs will pick those up. Will they show in iTunes, for example? Windows Media Player?
Personally, when it comes to sending music with tags to an industry person, I would only trust .aif or .mp3 format.

Re: How to add metadata to Wav files
My experience has been that if they ask for .wav files they do not expect metadata in them. They will rely on metadata provided separately such as spreadsheet, on-line form, etc. Libraries that want embedded data in hi res audio files will ask for .aiff (or .aif) files.Telefunkin wrote:....but what if they ask for .wav files? My experience is limited, but so far that's all I've been asked for, and as they've been for library purposes I've relied on the library to do the tagging. However, if I'm ever lucky enough to get a 'direct to supervisor' placement with no publisher in the middle I'd expect to have to put the metadata in myself. Until now, I'd not thought about what tools to use, but assumed it would be an easy job that just about any editor would do. Is that not entirely true?
