How To Delete Unused Saved Reverbs In PT?

Post by ernstinen » Mon May 24, 2010 7:20 pm

Here I Go Again!

To save HD space on my PT computer, I realized that I'll bet there are tons of HD space in unused saved reverbs like D-Verb and R-Verb on my ProTools computer. What I can't figure out is how to delete them! I can see all the saved reverbs, but when I right click them, they just load into whatever PT file is open. If I DON'T open a file, I can't find out how to access the respective reverb lists. Hmmmm --- Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Ern 8-) :)

Ern, I always thought if you needed more space you bought more hard drives. Since I just used the last hard drive plugin on my motherboard, and thinking ahead, I was looking at some usb hd docking cases on newegg, some of them have room for 2 hd, some 5 or 6. Looking around and deleting stuff never seemed to me to add up to any large amount of space, and I always end up deleting something I shouldn't have and messing everything up.

Len, I agree! I need a new PC, more hard drives, the newest version of ProTools --- BUT, I'm living "In A Van Down By The River," so to speak! I can't afford to basically EAT! I'm trying to get this project done with the equipment that I have, and am looking like Larry Fine after Moe pulled a big wad of hair out of his head. It really sucks. More on another thread of me whining, but thanks for your ideas! I appreciate your thoughts.

Plug-ins and plug-in settings take up very little real estate on your hard drive.

The biggest waste of space ime is keeping takes or tracks that you know you will never use.

A lot of people just hit delete after a bad take. This file will still remain in your session and in your audio files folder on your hard drive.

If you have a take you know you will never use, you have to click on the sound file and hit "apple z" on a mac to remove it from your hard drive completely.

In most cases, a saved reverb means a collection of settings; you won't get much, if any usable hard drive space by deleting that. However, impulse responses are usually WAV or AIFF; pretty big files that you could burn to a disk, delete and re-import as needed. On the other hand, you'd lose the ability to quickly audition them, so probably not worth the hassle. I'm with Len on this one; get a new drive and redistribute your files. I've been deleting unused programs wholesale, but it's probably better to decide what to keep, reformat the drive and re-install the keepers.
