Hi - I have a deal for a few songs by a Production Library. I get 100% writers and 50% publisher's share. The deal was signed a few months ago.
My contract states, "..Artist hereby authorizes [library], the EXCLUSIVE right to administer all artist’s rights in the compositions on a first priority basis throughout the universe, whether now known or otherwise until terminated by written notice."
Now, there is a current Taxi listing that was listed for the same type of song by a, "...Producer of a long running and VERY popular reality TV show". I don't plan to submit for it, because the songs in question are signed to a library, and as it states above, are to be exclusively administered by the library in question. BUT, in a case like this, do composers let the library know there is an opportunity sitting there, and have the library that the tracks are already signed to submit somehow for it? Common sense says to email the publisher and ask. I thought I would check here first, because someone here may be able to better interpret the whole 'first priority'. I already wrote such an email to the publisher, but since it mysteriously hung in my outbox without being sent, I put it on pause to check here first.

Hey, DI, thanks for input. Yes, I did send an email to the production library owner and got a response. The response refers to being open to handling any leads I come upon, just not via a intermediate service like, say, Taxi. Even on the Taxi side, the rules limit what can be submitted, anyway, so that all makes perfect sense. So, this topic is basically resolved for this case, for now.
