I Don't Know... do they sound too repetitive to you?

Hey Everyone,

I got two returns for the Hip-Hop Dramedy Instrumental listing. Here's the relevant parts of the listing:

Lots of HIP-HOP DRAMEDY INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a home run-hitting Music Library with a crazy long list of Film, TV, Advertising, and Trailer placements!

This Library is on the hunt for Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following examples:

Please submit well-crafted Dramedy Instrumentals with Hip-Hop beats and a playful sound and vibe! This Company is specifically looking for tracks that could give comedic or eye-brow-raising energy to scenes in reality TV. Your submissions should have cheeky motifs, engaging beats, minimal melodies, and dynamic arrangements with plenty of forward development throughout. Instrumentation in the general wheelhouse of the references will work best (Hip-Hop beats, pizzicato strings, mallets, horns, etc.). Please make sure any virtual instruments or samples you use are high quality and not dated-sounding.

TAXI Tip: This Company is interested in working with producers and composers who will be in it for the long haul and are willing to do a whole album with them. That said, we recommend submitting (at least) 2-3 tracks per submission so they can get a good feel for your material. If they like what they hear, they may contact you to ask for more cues!

All submissions should be roughly 1.5 to 2 minutes in length (give or take). Non-faded, Button/Stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy the referenced material in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Here are the tracks and the feedback. Please give a listen and let me know your thoughts. Should I appeal? I mean, sure I could have changed them up even more, but I thought the sections were different enough to hear. Maybe I'm wrong.

What I like most about this song

Starts off with flavor — instantly in the dramedy zone. The instrumentation and vibe is great.

I think you could improve this song by

The track becomes a bit repetitive over time—adding more variation and evolution could help maintain listener interest.

Love how it kicks in — feels cheeky and cinematic. Thank you for this track, Mark.

I think you could improve this song by

The overall mix feels a bit loud and we need some more compression for the beats. There’s not enough forward movement in the arrangement; the track feels stuck in one loop rather than developing.

To be honest I definitely agree with the "development" comment more for the second track. That one felt much more repetitive. Also, while perhaps a bit picky, that one is much louder and saturated as well.

As for the first, I definitely see your frustration. It was obvious to me you did an A-B thing, then combined the two sections at the end. Classic, effective arrangement that I think works well, and the two sections are different enough in both timbre and melody that it didn't feel repetitive to me. The only thing I could think is if you added one more percussion element (a triangle, bongo, something) to the last section it might've made it pop just a little bit more, but again, that's pretty picky. Sorry about the frustrating return

Thanks for listening Geoff. The second one is an older track that was reworked (based on the first round of critiques from Taxi), so maybe I missed something during the remix/remaster phase of that one. Back to the drawing board I suppose.

I think you're close but no cigar with these. more variation and better production required.

Have you watched Matt Vander Boegh's Youtube channel ( Matts musix Minute ) ..this is his main genre and he breaks it all down for you...he's one of Taxi's most succesful memebers so he really knows his stuff.

Thanks Mark! Yes, I know about Matt's channel and have watched some of his videos, but not all of them. Will certainly be viewing them again soon.
