I Don't Need Nobody Else (Reduex)

Post by Casey H » Mon Apr 20, 2009 4:12 pm

HiI've had this old 60's style rocker around for quite awhile. It had some issues with the lead vocal, a few lyric lines, and the mix. Keith (our B. Flat) re-sang, made some changes, and re-mixed it. I've been thinking about it for this listing, though it might be good for other 60's ones. Thanks Keith!! ROOTS LEANING INDIE ROCK SONGS are sought by a Los Angeles-based music publisher who has signed dozens of TAXI songs/writers and has been successful in securing film and television placements. He is looking specifically for Indie Rock songs that can fit into the Alt Country and Americana format. Examples they give range from College radio acts such as Fleet Foxes, Ben Iver, Okkerville River and Blitzen Trapper to acts with proven track records like The Old 97's, Butch Walker, The Shins, Ryan Adams, The Jayhawks and Uncle Tupelo to Classic acts such as Gram Parsons, The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. Performances must be excellent and recordings need to be Broadcast Quality - great home recordings should be just fine. He splits the license fee with you 50/50 and doesn't take any publishing - it's a non-exclusive deal. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Tuesday, April 21, 2009. TAXI # S090421IR Please ignore the problem where it "skips" at around 3:10... This is the very first mix-- will be tweaked. What do you think in general? Is it on-target for this listing? (No biggie if not)Is there any particular 60's act or time-period it feels like?www.taxi.com/caseyh "I Don't Need Nobody Else"LyricsI Don't Need Nobody Else © CPH (Stealing is prohibited)Verse 1Mama said shop aroundKeep your freedom as long as you canThat's good advice for other guysBut she didn't understandCos I think I know what I needI think I know what I needVerse 2Mama said take your timeBut how much time does she think I've gotBefore my senses start to slow downAnd my hair begins to fall outAnd I think I know what I needI think I know what I needChorus 1I don't need nobody else noI don't need nobody else noI don't need nobody else but youNobody else but youI don't need nobody else noI don't need nobody else noI don't need nobody else but youNobody else but youVerse 3Mama said look aroundBut my eyes are getting sore and redPretty girls will come and goA dime a dozen she saidBut I think I know what I needI think I know what I needChorus 2I don't need nobody else noI don't need nobody else noI don't need nobody else but youNobody else but you...Instrumental Repeat Chorus 1 OutroI don't need nobody else no... Casey,Very cool song, and I think it fits the listing. I just spent some time sifting through clips of the referenced artists to see if I had anything that might fit. I don't, but I think your song has the right vibe. Some of the referenced acts have a faux Phil Spector Wall of Sound or even a sloppy version of a Pink Floyd vibe going, but the range of acts mentioned is so wide I don't think you'll have any problem-- if the screener reads the listing properly that is.I'm listening for a second time and I really like this tune. Very catchy hook!! Excellent vocals and good guitar work.Cam

i very good example of a simple retro style tune with a very catchy, albeit simple lyric-- yet the multi harmony/lead thing you have going in that chorus is very cool. backing guitars almost james bondish early on, no?i dislike two lines--the hair one, and the dime a dozen one, seemed a bit corny/cliche. might be too picky, and i'm sure you've got your reasons. oh, one more thing, i'd up the female harmony that sits way back there a bit more....that's all i got, like it!all the best, warren

Casey,I like it. Hooky. Sometimes simple and repetitious is GOOD. I'd try $5 on it.DeanPS The INSTRUMENTAL SECTIONS have a 60's surf music feel.

Good song, Casey,It has a good retro feel that you are shooting for. My only nit is the ending right about where the skip is. Not the skip itself, but I think it repeats the line about two too many times. Good luck with it.Wig

Thanks WigI also thought that there were too many repeats at the end. In an eariler mix I had a few cut out.But for film/TV, it turns out that a lot of repeats can be a good thing. Can't be 100% sure of that, but it looks that way. Thanks for the listen and the nice words! Casey

hey Casey, this sounds just like The Barbarians to me. Unforunately I may be the only 60's music geek to know that! That's what I thought as soon as it started. They have a few other songs that sound even more like yours but this is just the first one that popped up on youtube- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akyb8StzqbABTW- when I was a kid I thought The Barbarians were really cool because the drummer had a "hook" in place of his hand (like a pirate)

I'm surprised I don't remember them- I'm pretty 60's literate (another word for old)...Honestly, I'm not sure the song fits this listing (it might) but I think it will do great for many other 60's opps...
