I don't quite get it....

Post by daveydad » Wed Jun 17, 2015 5:00 pm

OK, help me here. I submitted these two tracks for this listing. Screener liked them but stated that "these guys are looking for tracks where piano is the primary focus. I feel that the strings detract from the piano. The main reason(s) you were or were not forwarded for this listing is: Piano should be the primary focus." OK, unless I'm deaf, I would say piano is the primary focus and listing did say additional instrumentation is fine. I actually have these as piano solos also but felt they were stronger with the orchestration. Thoughts??

PIANO-BASED, NEW AGE INSTRUMENTALISTS are needed by an eclectic Independent Record Label that's looking hard to find new talent to sign to their roster. Submit immediately engaging compositions that would appeal to the fans of (but not limited to) Yanni, Suzanne Ciani, Laura Sullivan, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: "Quality has to be spectacular and original. Artists should have an obvious special quality to their material and musicianship." Give them Instrumentals that clearly showcase your compositional and performance strengths. Additional instrumentation is fine, but the melody and focus of your piece should be the piano.

Wow... Based only on the reason for return being the piano is not the primary focus and melody, I'm don't completely get it either but it's not my genre. Yes, one could argue that the strings could be a bit lower in the mix, but still the piano drives the focus and melody. It sounds like the screener was envisioning something closer to piano solo. The phrase "Additional instrumentation is fine, but..." must be implying more as far as how minimal that other instrumentation should be. How does yours compare when you A/B against the reference artists' tracks?

Might be worth contacting Taxi for clarification.

Nice pieces, BTW!!

:) Casey

Hi David,

Nice tracks, as usual! Seems obvious that piano is the primary focus of both, so I don't get it either. :?:

Referenced artists can run the whole gamut from piano solos to full blown orchestral pieces... especially Yanni who I would describe as more dramatic/epic new age. So who do you contact at Taxi about something like this?

Wow David, I don't get it either.
Piano was definitely the focus for me.

Just sent an email... we'll see. Oh, and I also submitted a 3rd track that was supposed to be a piano solo, but accidentally uploaded another mix with choir voices in it.... arrrgh!! I guess that's my tough luck or will they reconsider such a blunder?? :)

Did the client happen to be the screener? Cuz if so then it just wasn't right for the project and it doesn't really matter what they say. Just a thought.

Don't think so... This was the full original listing AFAIK...

We know the owner of this Record Label, and he is very passionate about his artists, and works very hard for them. If you've always wanted to be on a label where you'll get personal attention, and have somebody who is out there championing your music, this could be a really good fit for you! Please submit one to three pieces online or per CD, include photo and bio. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
