I had music on E!

Post by Casey H » Thu Apr 09, 2009 1:31 am

I got my ASCAP statement yesterday and found out I had a placement on "Dr. 90210" on E!. Although it wasn't through taxi, it is through a library that lists with taxi very often. (I made the contact long before I joined taxi through a personal referral). The reason I'm posting this here is to let you know that if you are getting taxi forwards to this library (I won't share the name- sorry), they are the real deal and if you are patient, placements are very possible. To date, they have placed tracks for me on NBC, TLC, The Food Network, The Wedding Channel, and now E! Entertainment.A good friend of mine, who works with this library, has placed sizable lengths of music on American Idol and American Idol Rewind and has had BMI checks of over $1000 in a quarter. It took at least 2-3 years (maybe more) from the time I signed on until I got a placement. I wanted to reiterate what others have said about it being a long process.Best CaseyPost edit:Sometimes people will post, email, or PM asking me how much money I made. It was a very small amount, at least right now. But I may be different than many in that I'm really not in it to make a living or even earn more than a little extra spending cash. It's always been all about personal satisfaction and validation for me. Also, I am fairly non-prolific, so I have no illusions of building a revenue base in the thousands of dollars. (I'll take it if it happens!)... This post describes me:Mar 31, 2009, 4:02pm, TAXI wrote: We also have members who get a few placements a year and supplement their existing income with that money. My observation is that for them, just having their music in places where it can be heard by millions is their main goal. They might not even want to become full-time library composers, yet they enjoy the validation that comes from knowing that somebody likes your music.Even if I never spent money on taxi, my net revenue over the past 9 years, taking into account all membership fees, hosting fees, demo service costs, office supplies (CD's, mailers, postage, etc), travel, hardware and software, etc would look like that of a 90's venture capital based Internet startup company. The joke back then was it was the ABSOLUTE VALUE of your bottom line that mattered!!! I could be different than most here. But this is me.

that's so great casey! all of my ASCAP statements have been blank so far, nothing to report. but on a positive note, one of my Ocean 11 type songs got licensed to be used (check received!). hopefully it gets used and my next ASCAP statement has something for me. I'm hoping this is the same library that's placing your tunes!

Wow, Casey!! Frame that ASCAP statement-- what fun!! A HUGE congratulations to you on your placement-- I'm so thrilled for you!!!! I'm thinking maybe a big letter "E" might be a good thing to put on your butt this year at the Rally...
