I have clearance to pitch to a major label.

Post by bitman » Tue Sep 19, 2006 10:52 am

A friend has a very high contact at a very big major label. He heard my country stuff and got me clearance to send in my CD, lyrics and some sort of a letter. The stuff is all copyrighted but not published.Q: Scince I'm not pitching myself, but my songs, Is it still called a bio? Q: And for those who know, what besides good spelling and professionalism, should be in a cover letter that would go along with this package?:Ron

Hi, since you have clearance to submit I would:1) write a personally addressed cover letter to the person involved, and I would make it very brief. "Dear Mr X/Ms Y, thank you very much for agreeing to hear my work. I have enclosed a demo CD with three country songs, and lyric sheets, for your review. (Insert a short sentence re your publishing/recording credits, if any.) I appreciate your consideration."Make sure your full contact name, address, email & telephone number are on the letter, each lyric sheet, and the CD label. In addition, your demo CD should be 3 song maximum, put your very best uptempo hit song first - in fact I would do 3 uptempo, or 2 uptempo and 1 mid-tempo, and stay away from ballads. Make sure the intros are short. (If you were planning to send a 15-song CD, I wouldn't recommend it. If you do, pick out the top three songs and indicate on the letter which tracks they should listen to. Put the track # & the song length under the title on the lyric sheet)Best of luckHummin'bird

Hey, best of luck with the pitch.

And I hollered to the rafters "I got nothin' left to lose,it's time to take a chance and shoot the moon!"The worst thing that can happen is they tell me "no" again, and I'll look for someone else to hear my tunes.
