I have my first forward with Taxi, but...
I have my first forward with Taxi, but...
Since the WAV file did not have Metadata and Taxi didn't ask me for my IPI number, how will i get paid if my track is used?
I've read that Taxi sends all of our info to the library, but Taxi doesn't have my PRO or IPI #.
Newbie question.
Thank you
John

Congrats on the forward! It's a big deal and means an industry pro thinks good things about your music.
Taxi will forward your track to the party that generated the listing.
Now, you have to hope that party wants your track. If they want the track, they will reach out to you. That is when you will take care of sharing your information.
I hope this gives some context on next steps.
Basically, not every forward results in a signing.

Hi John,
Other John(ny) has you covered on the answer. Taxi sends the email address associated with your account along with your track. Having said that, it's not a bad idea to attach metadata to your uploads just in case. Even if you don't do keywords and such, just including email, phone, and website (if applicable) can be helpful.
Also, if it matters, you don't need to upload 48/24 wav files to Taxi. You can, of course, but good MP3s is adequate for the purposes of submissions. Once the library contacts you and signs the track(s), that's when you can bounce them as WAV files. (You'll need to do alt mixes and/or stems at that point anyway)
But also keep in mind that the majority of your forwards won't result in a library contact. That's just the way this goes. Just keep making good music and getting those forwards!
Hope that's helpful!

Re: I have my first forward with Taxi, but...
Your first 'forward' is a great thing to be excited about, it means your track met the brief criteria and is broadcast quality as judged by industry experts. Congratulations!
However, there are several further steps before any money would change hands.
- A 'forward' means that your track will be passed on to the library responsible for the listing, along with your contact details. At the moment, that's all it means. Taxi has played its part and what happens next is all in the hands of the library.
- The library might no longer need such tracks, or might not like your track for some reason, and in that case you'll not hear anything further from them, so the track remains yours to do with as you wish. More positively, if they do like your track they'll get back to you with an offer of a contract.
- Its entirely up to you whether you want to accept the deal you're offered. If you accept then the library will want to set up an account for you that includes all you personal information (including CAE/IPI number).
- The library might ask for changes or edits to the track to suit their preferences before ingesting it. Once happy, they will also ask you for the full version in their preferred file standard, and probably some alternative and cut-down versions, or perhaps un-mastered stems, as well as meta-data.
- Once that's all done, the library are likely to include your track on an album of similar tracks, which might take them some time to assemble, get the artwork done, release and distribute.
- Only then will potential clients get access to your track to include in TV shows/films etc. That could happen fairly quickly, or it could take years, or in the worst case the track never gets used.
- When (if) your track is used the details of that use should (in theory) find their way back your PRO. If that use is in the same country as your PRO then the use will show on your statement, but that might take 6-9 months. If the use is in another country it could take up to 2 years before it shows up on your statement.
- Provided your accumulated earnings exceed the payment threshold you should get paid, otherwise they'll roll over to the next period.
Therefore, I wish you good luck for a positive response from the library so that all the other steps can commence.

Hey d7guitar
You got good answers here.
If you DO end up getting a deal, we'll have to raise you 2 frets to e7guitar.
Best of luck!

Congrats!! I would strongly recommend signing up with BMI or ASCAP, they will assign you an IPI number.d7guitar wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 6:49 pmI have my first forward with Taxi, but...
