While listening I was thinking of the comments I made and they don't seem to be any different.

Did you put up the right link?
Hey Mike,

Awesome of you to check back in and listen to our updated mix.

Yes it is a new mix.

Vox are at a better level (we think). Although you liked the old level, others thought it was too loud.

We think the hi hats are smoother and softer, not so HOT (that was definitely a good call on that one).

For the strings we added reverb to them .. but that's all. Maybe you still want more work?

Hey guys - I didn't listen to the first mix, I could use more lead vox on this mix, just tucked back a bit too far I think. Something about the intro was a bit lackluster, can't really put my finger on it but once the bass kicks in the groove improves alot.

Sounds like you're closing in on it, great job!

Hi everybody!

This is Adam, I am the engineer mixing Ill Be Your Angel. I have finally gotten my account activated so I can respond myself. Thank you to everyone who has posted regarding this track of Dean & Daves. Its a really nice little number I think.

I am a semi-pro audio engineer trying to level up like a kid in and RPG Game :)

All of your comments have helped us a lot to shape and reshape this track searching for the best possible outcome prior to seeing how it fairs being mastered in a World Class Studio in Sydney which I want to do purely for my own understanding of where I am at mix wise.

I think one of the most difficult things in music production is knowing WHEN the room you are mixing in is at the right sonic level so that your interpretation of audio translates well to other systems. I have spent a great deal of time money and effort to get my studio nice and dead without going over the top. My personal belief is that it is not quite there yet and some Auralex on the ceiling and indeed bass traps might do well to anchor the sound up there.

In the studio, this track sounds almost amazing (to me and understanding I am not a pro engineer yet - 12 years)

To Marc Blackwell, as I have been saying to Dean, I am really impressed with your production skills. I have been to your website and listened to quite a few tracks. I almost feel a little rude, but I have asked Dean if it is at all possible to get a copy of the Cubase 6 Session for the song you and he recently did called "BAD STUFF" I am so impressed with the sound scape you created on this track in particular. Its exactly the sound quality I am trying to acheive, but I think I am falling short in the processing of tracks and other elements to achieve it.
I know you are doing this for a living, but if you could help a sound engineer trying to level up out that would be so awesome and I would be more than happy to do lots of vocals for you in return for it.

I will shortly post another version of IBYA to the forum. Please pick the hell out of it for me cos it will all help to get it right for the guys!

Thanks everybody again

Nice guys! The part that catches my ear now as sounding slightly artificial is in the middle of the chorus where the drums do a repetitive crash cymbal thing, starts to sound very mechanical and not like something a real drummer would do.

Nice going!

Hey everybody,

Actually there are a few nits I want to change myself having had a really good listen on my car sound system which I know very well.

LEAD VOCAL VOLUME (UP), SNARE VOLUME (UP), TOM VOLUME (UP)

Just up a little on each of these to anchor the centre of the mix some. I am going to reduce the reverb on the lead vocal just a tad, I think most would agree its blurring the lead vocal just a little bit. Also when it comes up in volume we don't want it to suddenly feel awash in FX.

The shaker in the beginning I will reprogram in Stylus RMX or if they guys are happy, I will just remove it. Its distracting, I am playing it for real...I would be bold and say I am good at timing but somehow this feels out of time for me. It was in perfect time when I recorded it and the mix was dry. Most likely because other elements now have delays on them and the shaker is still dry, they sound out. Somehow they just distract me from what the guitar is doing. The beginning of the song is very mellow and quiet and they just distract me. If anyone disagrees and likes the movement they provide please let me know. Either way they need to be programmed so that they are in perfect time.

The Cymbals are being addressed by our drum programmer Chris. He will sort that out for me so we can leave that until he gets back to me on it, he is a National level pro drummer here in Australia so I am going to trust him on this one completely.

I think at the moment that is all I have for it. We really appreciate everybody's takes on this track, you have all helped it to come a long way. So on behalf of Dean and Dave, again than you all very much indeed.

Adam :)

Thanks Ethan. Good call, we missed the repetitive cymbals ... they were tucked back in prior mixes and we never noticed them.

Adam, welcome to the forum!
