I'll bet you can't guess why this song was returned.

Post by dano » Wed Mar 23, 2011 2:43 pm

Man am I frustrated with this return.
I'll bet nobody can guess why
"Lo Mucho que Yo te Camelo" (check my page)
was returned for this listing:

CONTEMPORARY WORLD SONGS/INSTRUMENTALS OF ALL STYLES - African, Indian, Reggae, Zydeco/Cajun, etc., needed by Song Placement company for TV shows. They've had placements in Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Army Wives, The Office, and many more. MALE or FEMALE vocals and/or INSTRUMENTALS are welcome! Tracks must feature authentic ethnic instrumentation and arrangements. Worldbeat instrumentals are okay as long as they feature plenty of ethnic instruments - not just accents! - and they don't mix locales. Broadcast Quality needed (excellent home recordings are fine). Please submit two to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics and English translation (if applicable). All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Friday, February 25, 2011. TAXI #Y110225WO

I'm not too upset, since I've got one library already interested in it, but I'm frustrated about not getting through this screener to a potential new contact.

Okay, I'll bite, why? Did you forget to include the English translation? Sounds smokin' to me...

I'm hoping to collect a whole punch of puzzled responses, and ask TAXI to reconsider... grr...

Sounds like it would fit the listing to me... not sure why it was returned. I thought it was very well done and catchy.

Great track! I too had 2 tunes returned for the listing. They commented that while the tunes are acceptable for the listing, "the audio level and sound of this track were not up to broadcast standards"

Kinda funny because out of all of my tracks, these were one of the only tunes recorded in a "real" studio, as opposed to my home studio. I'm not trying to bash the screener here cause I'd be the first one to admit that they're probably right 99% of the time. BUT maybe this particular listing was after a specific "sound?" Just a guess. If interested in hearing em, my two tracks that were returned are:
"Kirwani" and "Ahir Bhairav"

I wouldn't sweat it, especially considering there is already a library interested. I thought your track sounds great. :D

Hey Dan, the track sounds awesome to me, and i don't even have a guess as to why it was returned.
It said screened on a yes/no basis, did they actually give you a reason?

Yes they gave me a reason, a very specific one. Here is the last line of the short review:

" Otherwise, this track would have been perfect for this listing."

Can anyone guess what it was they found so offensive that it ruined an "otherwise perfect for the listing" track?
Or, better yet, determine what it is by listening to the track?

If anyone can do it, I'll eat my shoe... uh.. I mean, my words.

Thanks for playing!

Okay, I'll bite, lol. That there was an Arab vocal on a Spanish song, and they don't mix locales??

I thought the production sounded strong and very well done.

That it wasn't in 7/8 ;)

No really though. I'll bite. Maybe they didn't like the fret less bass. I liked it. But maybe (and I'm wildly guessing here) they weren't looking for something that authentic sounding??

I know I've already said it, but on a second listen...I like the track even more. Great work :D

I'll have a wild guess. It was too long?

I can't for the life of me think of a reason why this would be returned. I'd be hitting up the head screener for a second review on this one!
