I'm Going South For The Winter
I don't remember finding any notes that i have ever posted this song so if you would, listen to it and give me some feedback please.Lyrics aren't necessary to post. Even though i don't sing or play worth a Sh*t it's possibly enough to tell me where it fits, what genre you think it may be into? And as you have always done, tear it up, criticize it, anything in fair game cause i can't learn anything unless you guys and gals with the expertise give me some direction. Now remember, i'm not a singer nor a player, so i'm not interested in being told i'm not, I already know that. But if you can give me pointers on the lyrics, melody and maybe where i can find a home for it, i'd really appreciate it.Dochttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=187986&stream=true

Re: I'm Going South For The Winter
Hey Doc....Cool song.... if you post lyrics it's easier to comment on them.... years of excess have killed my short term memory and can't remember, listen and type at the same time....First impression.... the sections run together a bit.... the hook/chorus don't really stand apart from the verses.... a break (musical or lyrical would help)....I would say Traditional Country? Suck at genres so get other opinions.... For some reason images of a Southwest Airlines commercial come to mind.... or Motel 6...BTW I like your voice.... you sound like a Doc!!!Good tunage!!!Peace, Geo

what's up doc?How could you have any doubts about this song. It's great for a non-techy guy.Your voice is way better than decent, but in some places you were a little shy.Hopefully the forum guru's will help you with the production stuff.By the way, is your beach gal a 30 year old? I might worry about throwing your back out kicking all that sand around.best of luck to youPaul

Re: I'm Going South For The Winter
Well thanks but i gotta remind you all that i really do not sing worth a hoot and i do not play worth a darn. I'm just forced into doing a demo on my lap top cause i have no one up here in Northern NM that i can get to do them. Only time i'll ever be on stage will be if i get drunk and streak! You guys are the pros and that's why i ask cause i don't do any of that public stuff. I just try to write a good or average set of lyrics and put a tune to it.But the input is really appreciated. There is no other place a person can get it honestly and thats the only feedback i want, is honesty. I was hoping to find a place for it and maybe get a real pro or artist to do a demo so i can submit it but other than CW or a SW Airlines seasonal song I'm not certain where it would fit in, maybe a parrot head song?Hope your dog has recovered!I wish i knew Brad Paisley!I'm still looking for this years beach gal, last years got married!Really thanks a bunch it helps to get more direction as to what to do,Doc

Here's the lyrics:I’m Going South for the WinterBy Stephen A. “Doc” Haley & RiverCityMusic Publishing Verse 1I’m going south for the winterRocky Mountain winters are way too coldMaybe it’s just that I’m getting lazyOr maybe I’m just getting oldCabin gets a bit uneasyLike the walls are closing inCan’t get out to get to townIf I did I couldn’t get back in(chorus #1)Gonna find a beach babySomeone to spend the winter withKicking sand at each otherAnd just trying to liveMaybe South Padre or DaytonaDestin, Myrtle or CancunWe can go where ever you wannaBaby I’m leaving that up to youVerse 2Leaving Sparky with the stableHe’ll get the winter off and he’ll grinI’ll see him in the spring timeWe’ll go riding once againRight now I’m pretty busyUmbrella drink in my handGot me a middle school teacherSnuggling up to this ol man(Chorus # 2)Gonna find a beach babySomeone to spend the winter withKicking sand at each otherAnd just trying to liveSan Diego, Santa BarberAny west coast beach is fineGet a hut on the waterLaying out in that old sun shineSong break ………………………..Verse 3It’s getting late the suns fallingMoons coming up it’s time to playHaving recess with the teacherWouldn’t have it any other wayLeave the swim suits on the beach towelsJump on in and have some funActing like we were in high schoolTwo hearts becoming one(chorus # 3) Gonna find a beach babySomeone to spend the winter withKicking sand at each otherAnd just trying to liveWon’t matter where we’re stayingWe’ll have each other to holdI won’t be back in my cabinFighting off the winter coldMight be the south of France or MonacoSouthern Italy or GreeceAnywhere there is some sunshineJust make sure it has a beach.Repeat and song fades out ……………………Sorry for it being long but with separate chorus' that's how it comes out.Doc

Re: I'm Going South For The Winter
Hi Doc, nice song and I enjoyed the vocals. I'm not completely sold on the 3 versions of the chorus. The 1st chorus is pretty strong, so you could consider incorporating some of the locations mentioned (in the other choruses) into a bridge. Not much difference melodically between verse and chorus, however, it's a good melody and this fomat may well work better if the chorus is consistent. You could incorporate 'beach baby' into the last line of the chorus to emphasise (and perhaps justifying changing the title to beach baby). Can't help on genre, unfortunately, because I consistently get it wrong. Just my thoughts, hopefully of some help.Good job.Graham
