Hey guys!

I think these two songs are really good but obviously i'm biased coz i wrote them! I need your expert opinions on whether i'm actually any good or not! They have an indie/ pop feel to them!

I havent joined taxi yet....... will it be worth my while based on what yous can tell from these two songs?

Check out 'Scream' and 'diamond'.....

Thanks for you time!

Hey there .. I listened to your songs and there is great potential .. The production /mixing need alot of work .. Not that I'm a expert at it, but I do know that no way will it get forwarded unless you can clean them up .. compression balance ,blah, blah blah , and what ever else .. I hope you can get some more instructive tips from the gang here because I think your songs are pretty good .. I wish i could tell you what to do technically but I'm learning from these guys and I have a lot of work to do in that regard too.. Good luck with it all.

I think the songs are pretty good too. The mix seems pretty off, though. I think the bass is too out front and not really in sync with the drums, at least on the first one. Could maybe use a better drum program as well. Good luck with them!

Paddy,

I checked out your MS page and found more than 2 songs. Not sure which two you were wondering about but it doesn't really matter at this point.

All of the tracks need mix work to get the vocals more out front and understandable. Some of the instruments come on too strong and abruptly.

I would like to see you pick one song and post the lyrics here so we can take a deeper look because it sounds like there is potential in your writing chops, BUT,
(there's always a big but getting in the way) I don't see an artist/record deal in your near future. You are gonna have to get your vocal pipes under control for that to happen.
Being a songwriter on the other hand is by no means out of reach for you.

Good luck and stay with it. The folks here are very helpful and if you follow the tips that are consistently repeated you will grow as a songwriter.

Hey guys!

Thanks very much for taking the time to listen to me!

For those who didnt know which songs i was referring to they are 'Scream' and 'diamond'...... those two were recorded on garageband on my mac, i used an apogee one to record the vocals, i also have an sm58 mic..... which would be better to record the vocals with?

The other 3 songs were recorded on my old 8 track.... so the mix on them is terrible ( out of time etc.) dont even bother listening to them! haha!

Do i need to raise the volume of the vocals?

If you only have time to listen to one i suggest 'diamond'....

Hi :D
I agree with Wayne it that you should focus first on the songwriting. It sounds like there's some very good stuff in those songs but it's very difficult to tell with the vocal buried and pitchy. Don't let that discourage you. If you can write and develop your home studio skills you can create music for film/TV... If you can't pull off the vocals yourself (not saying you can't, just IF), you can have someone else do the vocals.

So I would mix one song that you think is your best with the vocals much more out front and post a link to that with the lyrics. Let's talk about the songwriting.

At the same time, lots of folks can make suggestions as to how to upgrade your home studio and/or use of it. This is the very best place in the world to learn! Be patient... It will take time... But you CAN do it.

Welcome!
:) Casey

Hi guys! Thanks so much for the replies!

Casey when you say the vocals are buried is that because there might be too many instruments or that perhaps there is too much reverb in the song? i always tend to put quite a bit of reverb on the vocals........ perhaps that ends up burying them?

Hi Paddy,

I agree with the others that there is too much reverb on the lead vocal. It may be that your system, mainly the speakers/monitors you are listening back on deceive you into thinking you haven't put too much reverb on. It may be clear to you but to us, obviously, there is entirely too much.

I listened to diamond and there is potential there but it is hard to tell for sure.

got lost in "scream", went on to "diamond". liked the latter, and liked what i guess people would refer to as the bridge. you have nice melodies, you have nice rhythm, but what you don't have is understandable lyrics. I can't hear what the singer is saying; trust me, this is a bit negative. I'll repeat: your music is good. Some people don't care what the lyrics are, but I do. You have talent, please bring the lyrics up front so i can hea them.

A few of yous wanted to know the lyrics to 'diamond' so here they are....

VERSE 1: got told a story that i've never heard before, liked the feeling but it left me wanting more, time is eating away at this sore, when hurt is growing its hard to ignore, and i wonder if i do you wrong and i wonder if i should carry on, its not the world that i want just a better life

VERSE 2: where i cant believe what i've become, a dream come true with you we are one, one moment and one man collide, one feeling i just cant hide,

BRIDGE 1: take a minute to calculate, her heart is a record thats been broke, one spark could ignite it all, a fire burns inside my heart coz…

CHORUS:she's a diamond in the rough
those are the words that i want to hear , i long for those words with you standing here

BRIDGE 2: those are the words that i want to hear , i long for those words with you standing here
VERSE 2:
BRIDGE 2:
CHORUS:
