If you're looking for something portable and REAL small..

I bought the Tascam DP-004 and every time I use it I shake my head and say "I love this thing".

It's a digital 4 track with 2 built in condenser mics that I never planned to use (thinking they probably sucked) but now I use them exclusively w/this little guy.(paid around $240.00w/tax)

I've banged out several high quality sound effects as well as my BEST acoustic guitar recordings to date. It's a limited little machine but once you've captured the track it's easy to snatch on a computer and process.I find using the medium setting on the mics works best in stereo mode. You can mixdown to a master track or snatch the individual tracks in mono.If you're in a band and go back and forth to members houses it's a great little scratch pad for songwriting but no need to trash the tracks thinking they're inferior recordings - I bought this to record outside projects.I don't have a practice or studio space so I go to them and instead of dragging a bunch of stuff around.I set this little guy down and plug it in and go.It also works on batteries but if they go dead on you during a session you'll lose your work,I recommend the AC adapter.I use it in battery mode when I need to get a sound effect outside which makes things real easy...bum..
