I very much agree, thanks for the breakdown Paulie, good summary
But tell us how you REALLY feel!cosmicdolphin wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 3:12 pmI think it's constantly filled with awful Country Music requests which I dislike with a passion and wish the entire loathsome cheesy POS genre could be jettisoned into the bowels of Hades and everytime someone mentioned the word Nashville we were allowed to remotely tazer them to their knees.
I can't - I'd get bannedCasey H wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 2:47 pmBut tell us how you REALLY feel!cosmicdolphin wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 3:12 pmI think it's constantly filled with awful Country Music requests which I dislike with a passion and wish the entire loathsome cheesy POS genre could be jettisoned into the bowels of Hades and everytime someone mentioned the word Nashville we were allowed to remotely tazer them to their knees.![]()
Serendipitous! Thanks!Paulie wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 1:37 pmAnd from the "Good Timing" category, I just saw a facebook post from Taxi with a link to a list of their posts by category for the year. There were 1,349 total for the year with 280 pop, but the biggest category being Instrumental with 317 (which includes a wide variety of genres).

I've gotta say Paulie... the requests for the past while have had a LOT of non pop requests... so I considered myself corrected! Thanks very much for your thoughtsPaulie wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 8:03 amJust for grins I counted up all of the current listings, there are 66 open at the moment.
So yes, the largest category of listings is Pop, with nearly a third of them. But that means two thirds are not pop, unless you consider country, electronic, singer/songwriter, R&B/soul, funk and adult contemporary as Pop, which make up 23 of the 66. so, depending on your definition, there could be 43 of the 66 considered Pop. But this is all water under the bridge.

Write to your strengths, Taxi is just one tool of many that can help composers get their music into libraries and on tv.

Maybe eat some humble pie?Telefunkin wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 3:37 pmSo, if you get your pie chart what will you do with it? Will it drive you to do anything different or will you continue to do the same (in which case it served no purpose)?
I definitely stand corrected on the listings having mostly pop, things have been very different lately. And also too, I think it is true that I have had a too narrow view of what "pop" is, and I tend to gloss over those listings. I have actually made songs now that are considered (partially) "pop", but I would have never considered them that before myself.Telefunkin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 3:06 amSorry if that sounds a bit aggressive, and that certainly wasn't my intention. Actually, I congratulate you for making the observation in the first place. My point was that your post title suggests you're pretty resolute about not being interested in pop music, so no amount of stats analysis would change that. Paulie took the time to provide a snapshot of the current genre distribution and the info for that is there for anyone to do the same, but did it help and have you modified your plans as a consequence?Telefunkin wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 3:37 pmSo, if you get your pie chart what will you do with it? Taking a much wider view, if you keep hearing music on TV and think 'I could do that' then you're in a much better position than if you make music in styles that rarely show up. However, there's a place for just about anything of broadcast quality. The challenge is to find the opportunities, and Taxi is still a great place to do that, as well as finding collaborators to broaden your chances.
