IMRO Songwriter Retreat 2008IMRO will host a Songwriter Retreat in Co. Donegal in February 2008. Date: Tuesday 12th – Friday 15th February 2008 (inclusive)Venue: The Sandhouse Hotel and Marine Spa, (4-Star) Rossnowlagh, Donegal Bay, Co Donegal, www.sandhouse-hotel.ieCost: €365 per person attending (special reduced rate sponsored by IMRO)Whatever inspired Yeats, you'll find it around here!The Sandhouse Hotel, described as 'one of Ireland's west coast treasures', is magnificently situated on the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean overlooking Donegal Bay. It is a haven of comfort and tranquillity amidst the beauty of rural Ireland. The hotel is located in Rossnowlagh, known as 'the heavenly cove'. This songwriter event will run along similar lines to those previously hosted by IMRO in that it will focus on songwriter collaboration and live performances of new material.Each morning workshop participants will be randomly paired off together to spend the day co-writing. We will also be running songwriter masterclasses over the course the workshop session and each evening participants will be given the opportunity to perform newly written material live. The cost of this workshop includes: 4 nights accommodation plus 3 days breakfast, lunch and evening meals at the Sandhouse Hotel. All additional hotel services, meals, phone, etc will be billed at normal hotel rates.Workshop participants will be required to pay for the workshop fee on arrival. Extra hotel service charges, if billed, are payable to the Sandhouse Hotel on departure. There are only 40 places available for this workshop, so early booking is advisable. We are delighted to announce that the internationally acclaimed hit writer Bob Regan will conduct a full day master class at this retreat.Bob Regan began playing guitar during high school in South Lake Tahoe, California. He attended the University of California at Davis, paying his way through by playing clubs and fraternity parties on the weekends. Upon graduating with a degree in psychology, Bob devoted himself to music full time, performing throughout the Western US. In 1980, Bob moved to Los Angeles to pursue a solo career. In 1982 he signed as an artist to Curb/CBS Records and recorded an album of his original songs. At the end of his short tenure as an artist, Bob made the decision to concentrate on songwriting and in 1985 made the move to Nashville. Since arriving in Nashville, Bob has had over 200 songs recorded, he has played guitar on hundreds of recording sessions and performed on the WSM Grand Old Opry from 1989 to 1996. He has also been a guitarist for artists as diverse as Jennifer Warnes, Keith Whitley and Hank Thompson. Bob has had songs recorded by artists ranging from Hank Williams Jr. to Andy Williams, Roy Rogers to Keith Urban, BR549 to Donny Osmond. Bob’s hits include; “You’re Everything” by Keith Urban, “Every Time I Cry” by Terry Clark, “Steam” by Ty Herndon, “Busy Man” by Billy Ray Cyrus, “Running Out of Reasons to Run” by Rick Trevino, “Thinking About You” by Trisha Yearwood, “Soon” by Tanya Tucker and “’Til Love Comes Again” by Reba McIntire. He is a writer on the current Jake Owen single, “Something About a Woman”. Bob is a staff writer for Woody Bomar’s new publishing venture, Green Hills Music. He is also the current legislative chair of the Nashville Songwriters Association as well as the former president. During his tenure, NSAI helped pass the Songwriters Capital Gains Tax Equity Act of 2006 which allows songwriters to claim the capital gains tax rate upon the sale of their catalogues. Bob is currently an adjunct professor at Belmont University in its new songwriting major.
