Indie Electo-Pop Instrumentals...

Post by sethlit » Sat Feb 02, 2013 12:43 pm

I'm leaning toward any length here, but I'm curious, is there anyone interpreting this as a strict .30 length? Thoughts?

New Listing TOP TIER MUSIC SUPERVISOR needs MID-to-UPTEMPO INDIE ELECTRO-POP, DANCE-ROCK and ACOUSTIC-BASED DANCE/POP INSTRUMENTALS a la: "Ho Hey (DC Landon Remix)" by The Lumineers http://bit.ly/WGApI9 "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service http://bit.ly/XdzFK7 QUOTING THE SOURCE: "Looking for songs that build in energy. Ideally, the piece should start with MEDIUM TEMPO, have a stop-down midway and then kick into a slightly faster tempo and fuller melody, ending with a feel-good vibe and climactic crescendo. This should NOT be dance music or hard techno....rather a mesh of ORGANIC INSTRUMENTS and ELECTRONICA. Softer, bright DANCE-ROCK will also be considered [with an electro beat]. Structure mentioned above is important. This instrumental will be used in two :30 commercials in a local advertising market." Your material must sound CURRENT and COOL. Your piece must be UPBEAT, DRIVING, POSITIVE and BUILD as described above. Ultimately, your track needs to get toes tapping. Instrumentals without vocals and instrumentals with non-lyrical vocals will be considered. The licensing fee is $5,000 for two-year term. If your piece is ultimately licensed, you will keep 100% of all fees since this project is DIRECT-to-SUPERVISOR. You MUST own and control 100% of the Master and Composition rights to submit for this listing. NO SAMPLES of other songs or artists can be incorporated into your track. As always, do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists or their music in any way, shape, or form! References are provided only a guide for TONE, TEXTURE, TEMPO and VIBE. Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine.) Please submit one to three instrumentals online. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS by the actual Music Supervisor. NO full critiques from TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than Sunday, February 3, 2013, 5:30PM PST. TAXI #U130203IN

hi seth,

i fired off an email to Phil soon after getting the email about the listing asking the same thing. haven't heard back.

also do you understand the "slightly faster" after the break to be an actual increase in bpm or just in rhythmic feel (like going from 1/8th to 1/16th subdivisions?)

It never hurts to ask (e.g. email Taxi) but I don't interpret the listing as asking for 30 second pieces as submissions. It reads to me more like you submit full tracks but the client will be using music in two 30 second spots.

That's how MY eyes  see it.

;) Casey

Hey guys,

Yeah I agree, I remember Taxi being pretty specific when .30 or .60 were requested. So it seems to be a full tracks(ish) request.

Andy- I thought the speed up thing was...unique? I'm wondering if that is a general feel comment (rhythmic/syncopation) or BPM as well? Personally I'm going with a slight BPM speed bump. I'm starting at 141, musical break, then I'm immediately at 152. At least, that's were I'm at right now :o At the moment though, it's looking like my cue will only be about a minute and a half, hopefully there isn't a 2 minute requirement.

Also, I think I'm going to throw an older instrumental I did called "You and Me" at the listing too. Even though, there isn't any speed increase. Why not, I feel like it might be worth the 5 doll hairs. :D
