INDIE FOLK/POP INSTRUMENTAL Feedback Please

Post by DBarnett » Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:10 am

Hello fellow composers!
Here's a tune I wrote about 2 years ago that I had forgot about
I wanted to see if you thought this could be a fit?
Any mix feedback would be helpful as well
Thank you friends

This Company is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could be found on a playlist with the following references:

"Missing Piece" by Vance Joy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atka_0TUTLM

"Thin" by Aquilo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUiMg3EjK7w

"Any Day Now" by Trousdale

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this request.

Please submit well-produced Indie Folk Pop Instrumentals (not Cues) with memorable melodies, engaging rhythms, and plenty of great energy. Production and instrumentation that seamlessly blend modern Indie Folk and Pop elements in the general style of the references will suit your submissions best. Please be sure that any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and fresh – nothing dated will work for this pitch. Sticking with one mood throughout your pieces so they remain cohesive is recommended.

Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length and no longer than 4 minutes. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best for this request. Do NOT copy the referenced material in any way, shape, or form. Use the references only as a guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

First impression of opening bits - comparing it to the first 2 ref tracks: which both have simple (acoustic) guitar riffs, and the same 'distinctive'/more-contemporary rhythm/beat pattern.
Seems to me your track is NOT close enough to those examples. That alone would make me think the screener's comment might be "dated rhythmically".

How hard would it be to re-record your composition to the same sort of rhythm/key/tempo/scarcity (in the Intro)?
Seems THAT would make yours more befitting a sound-alike/playlist.

My 2 cents.

I think that's good advice, Peter
