I have been a TAXI member for most of this year and, I suspect that like others, I have experienced some confusion when trying to understand the characteristics/requirements of instrumental cues. After the Road Rally, particularly having studied Steve Barden's presentation, I feel that the confusion is decreasing for me. I would explain my understanding as follows: A piece of music always needs repetition and variety. My natural inclination is to try to provide variety (and so hopefully prevent boredom in the listener) by including different melodies and chord patterns within the one piece. As I have been learning, however, the style of instrumental cues calls for a single musical idea, possibly to avoid the viewer/listener from being distracted. I have noticed some listings recently where TAXI's client observes that many composers try to include more musical ideas than required). To counter the repetition of the single motif, variety can generally only be provided by varying the texture, dynamics and timbre, and it is the ability to do these things which needs to be developed. Am I on the right track with this observation? I apologise if I am stating the obvious to more experienced members of TAXI, but as I am on a learning curve, I would be grateful for any and all feedback which I might receive on these observations and on the music which I have linked below.

Since my last post, and also considering CTWF's comments, I have revised and renamed the music. Here it is:-
