matto wrote:As some of you know I recently got an iPad and am eager to find some cool music related apps for it. I'm mostly interested in:

- apps that would let me quickly capture song or instrumental ideas while on the go, either acoustically or via some kind of virtual keyboard/VI, and save them for later so I won't forget

- apps for beat creation or the like to produce beats or beds while not in the studio, which I could later import into my DAW or Recycle for slicing and import into e.g. Stylus RMX

- any type of new instruments/synths which use the multi touch interface in innovative ways, either for sound manipulation or riff/lick recording

- control surface or remote control apps to use in the studio

In other words, apps that work as useful tools for the professional composer/songwriter, not gee whiz stuff that's essentially useless and only serves to show off 'how cool' the iPad is... ;)

If you have any favorite non music apps that you can't live without feel free to post about those as well.

iPhone apps that also work on the iPad are welcome, although I'm most interested in stuff that takes full advantage of the iPad's bigger display...

Thanks,

matto

Yes there is a remote control app for the ipad that works with Cubase. I works really good. My friend has one. He made me a video of him using it. if you want to see that I'll send it to you. It has automated faders and everything.

But you can see it here AC 7:

Adding to the pile, I think this fresh looper app from TC-Helicon is way cool http://www.tc-helicon.com/products/voic ... icejam.flv

This was something I would consider if I had a pad (I'm not a "first mover", so I wait untill I can get an open platform pad with Android or something), as it not only looks useful to develop ideas on the fly, but also to actually make finished, or nearly finished, tracks on the fly. It's a whole new instrument in itself.

Yeah, I love the stuff from TC. They have headquarters close to where I live, so I may be biased, but I've owned lots of great TC gear, and has never been dissapointed. 2$ for a mobile looper.. how cool is that!!!

Related to the post about Gorillaz new album recorded entirely with an iPad, here is the list of apps they used. Lot's of interesting apps here:

Gorillaz used a variety of iPad music software to recorde The Fall:

Speak It!
SoundyThingie
Mugician
Solo Synth
Synth
Funk Box
Gliss
AmpliTube
Xenon
iElectribe
BS-16i
M3000 HD
Cleartune
iOrgel HD
Olsynth
StudioMiniXI
BassLine
Harmonizer
Dub Siren Pro
Moog Filtatron

Search for them by name in the app shop.

Oh cool,

thanks B.

I know you didn't like the original Amplitube for the iPhone but Amplitube 2 looks quite interesting. The sound should be much improved given that the code is derived from the Mac/PC Amplitube 3, and the built in 8 track recorder looks rather full featured. And if you're not in love with the guitar sounds, the parts can actually be recorded dry while only listening thru Amplitube, so you could later export them into your DAW and use an amp sim that's more to your liking.

One app that is not directly music related that I think is going to be very useful is PDF Reader Pro.

I 'm in the process of organizing and loading the manuals from various hardware and software.
(no one seems to actually provide a printed manual these days)

To be able to access all this info on the iPad will be very helpful.

I can now personally vouch for the Korg synth. It's really cool!!

And also MorphWiz, which is like Beebot on steroids. I'm recording with this one for a few different things now. Very neat little synth!

But check this puppy out:

I've been hearing a LOT of good things about this lately. I'm gonna go ahead and buy the adapter this weekend and give it a spin. It sure would be nice to have something as portable as the iPad to drag around and record ideas with.

This thing is quickly becoming a very capable music creation tool. I'm in love with mine. :D
