Is the quality good enough?

Post by cameron » Mon Dec 08, 2008 5:26 pm

Hi,I've come upon a listing outside of Taxi that is looking for songs about Mother's Day for a compilation CD. Some of you may remember a collab song called Mother's Day that Squids and I did a few months back. The listing is asking for "master quality or close to it". Mine is a home recording. Do you think I could offer this or am I kidding myself?http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=trueI also have a country version of the same song recorded in a studio that I plan to include. Thanks,Cam

The piano track sounds great but the vocals have a pretty serious sibilance issue and seems to be missing the mark in the higher octaves. Just my two cents worth... hth, ;-) wta
Music is like oxygen, you can live without it but not for very long...

I'd submit this. To get picky, the piano by itself when this starts is a little, I don't know, a little midi-ish... once things get going then it's not that much of an issue.Non-broadcast quality music is, for the most part, immediately obvious and this isn't that. It's not from Sony studios either but this is a nice track. Good luck!DavePS - I'm not a "country guy" but I would love to hear the other version

Damn Squids you got an incredible voice.... Cameron, it's a good track- why not remix it, and send it to get mastered it costs about $75.i've used Fett @ Azalea Studios in Nashville and he does wonderful work.Bob

Thanks William, Dave & Bob.Bob, I've thought about sending it to a studio and maybe having them re-do the bass, which I think is the weakness in the song, or perhaps even having them redo all the instruments to Squids vox. Just wasn't sure it was worth spending the $$ on it if the song isn't what they're looking for. I guess it's one of those "chicken or the egg" things. $75 would be worth the gamble though.Cam

Hi Warren,Thanks for the feedback buddy. It looks like the compilation CD is for distribution to Christian bookstores, so not sure if this will fit. Might have to change the lyrics to "I'm praying for you, this Mother's Day." I haven't been to church in a zillion years, so it would be really ironic if this became my first deal. Cam

cam,it's pretty close. i bet you can find someone here on taxi to not only master it, but re-mix it as well .. give them all the individual tracks. i'll bet that would put you over the top.Dean

To me the quality sounds great...and so does the song! Go for it! I think it's a great fit!
