Is the vocal too loud on this track?

Post by vikvik20 » Sun Jan 02, 2011 3:55 am

Happy New Year Everyone!

I was wondering if you could kindly take some time and let me know if you think the vocal is too "high in volume" on this song.

When I listen to it, sometimes the vocal volume seems fine and blended in and everything and other times it feels like the whole vocal is too loud.

Feel free to comment on anything else of you like.

Thanks for your time!

Victor, I think you have a great song!! I don't think the vocal is too loud, the vocal was very dry and sounded like it was separate from the music, but I think a light reverb overall to blend everything together would make it perfect.

Hi Len911 -- thanks very much :) I think I hear your point here.. I kinda am getting a "seperate" vibe also now that you mention it. I'm gonna try a little reverb on the vocal and see if it helps. I rarely use more than 5% reverb because I'm afraid of losing that "vocal upfrontness". I just checked and I don't even have a reverb plugin on the vocal.

I'll try to post an update later today as I (hopefully) get more feedback but the reverb sounds like a good place to start.

Might also bring up the acoustic strums a bit.. ack but I don't want to remix it again looolll

really nice song and arrangement!

I agree about the vocals being too dry - it was noticeable even to me

There was a change in the vocal texture or something in the bridge section, but other than that nothing stodd out to me about the vocal's volume. I'm not sure if you want to have it be a little different there, anyway, since the same-chordness wears a little.

I could definitely see someone want to use this.

Thanks, bfl :) I intended the bridge to have a slightly different vocal texture as a subtle change to go along w/ the change in the chord progression.

Here is the new version... I added what I believe to be just enough reverb to make it all gel. There are a couple of other minor tweaks I did that are probably not noticeable and some more I'll do later -- but it was primary the vocal issue that was bugging the heck outta me.

Let me know if it's sounding a little more together now...

Thanks for your time!

yeah - I found the vocals felt a lot better

again - I really like the arrangement and placement of the little pieces. Lots of little things going on.

bridge vocal texture is not doing it for me - just my opinion - let others weigh in and then do what you feel is right :)

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate your comments about the bridge as well. I'll see how I feel about it in a couple of days and maybe I'll scale back the different texture a little.

Len911 -- Thanks hehe but I'll settle for "competent" :) I'll save perfect for if it gets used somewhere =D
