DITTO MATT! That one in particular is one of my favorite songs I've written, but stands absolutely zero chance of landing a placement.... I mean, how could I ever categorize THAT Frankenstein of a song? But I smile every time I hear it, and say, "that's freakin' cool".![]()

Well, since you've all asked (and sorry to hijack your thread, Joe!) - here's this beauty of a song. It's got everything I mentioned in my previous post, along with something I completely forgot about...... Flamenco Guitar, lol.

Anyway, it puts a smile on my face. And as I said previously, it's a Frankenstein of a song that has ZERO chances of landing a placement, and has no easily-identifiable genre. I remember when I wrote it, I thought it was "Quentin Tarrantino-esque", as if a movie director's name can be used as a music genre!

Enjoy, and try not to laugh.

My wife (the other half of Real Pickle) said this would make a great indie pop song if you ever wanted to rework it.
Or just let it live as the glorious epic hodgepodge that it is

Dude this is great! I don’t know man “never” and “always” are words that I tend to avoidVanderBoegh wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 8:50 pmWell, since you've all asked (and sorry to hijack your thread, Joe!) - here's this beauty of a song. Re: Is There A Home For This?
"Glorious Epic Hodgepodge" - HA!!! That's such a great description, Geoff!!!
And Brad, I too usually avoid using absolutes like "never" and "always" - but in this case, it's the sad reality. Not only would the music be hard-pressed to find a usage occasion (or a "syncable opportunity"), but I made one of my biggest regrets early on in my career - like, in year 2 or something. I got a deal with an exclusive company that was willing to sign everything I gave them. That should have been a MAJOR red flag, but I didn't know it at the time.... instead, I was just thrilled that I could essentially empty out my back catalog of music and get all my shitty tracks signed to an exclusive library. BIG MISTAKE. Companies that are willing to sign EVERYTHING YOU GIVE THEM are ones to avoid!!! That means there's absolutely no quality control, and the library is going to be one comprised of a lot of garbage. So, I gave them about 50 bad tracks, but that number also included my entire ("infamous") country CD.
Well, I listened to a lot of tracks on their website at the time, and sure 'nuff..... a LOT of crap. Junk. Garbage music. I remember listening to their hard rock cues, and found a "cue" that was like 6:00 min long. We're talking ZERO quality control. This guy seriously took anything he could get his hands on, then signed it exclusively to build up a robust catalog, and then you'll never guess what he did....
He sold the freakin' company. There was no announcement to the people signed to his library. Just POOF.... gone. I can't even remember how we all found out it had been sold..... And I have no idea who it was sold to. The tracks are mostly all un-registered with my PRO. The exclusive contract is an in-perpetuity deal, and I looked this up a few years ago - its legally binding nature extends to the next company that may purchase the library.
So, all those tracks - including this country monstrosity - are all gone. Signed away exclusively to a charlatan who built a catalog then sold the company to some other poor schmuck. I have no idea who owns this music at this point. And this all happened about 13 years ago!
So yeah.... I think "never" is a good word to use for this situation, lol. Sadly! Probably the only business move I regret in my entire career!!!!

This is a pretty wild story. I can totally understand the temptation, early in one's career, to make this kind of move. And I also get that this is a volume business, but still--to have 50 tracks that you know are as good as dead. That's a bummer.VanderBoegh wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 8:06 am
