Is this 'good' close or 'bad' close
hey everyone... i hope all is going well. I've been working hard the past couple of days writing and recording this tune for this heavy metal listing.A range of great, authentic-sounding HEAVY METAL INSTRUMENTALS [no vocals] are wanted by a U.K.-based Music Library/Publishing Co. for TV placement. Style-wise, think along the lines of Iron Maiden, Tool, Mastodon, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Diecast, Korn, etc. They don't want tracks that sound like they were obviously MIDI generated - authenticity and great performances are the keys. Both instrumentals with lead melody lines and basic backing tracks that serve as "soundbeds" are OK - they want both. All tempos are OK. Track length should be in the 1:00 - 3:00 range. At this point they work mostly with prominent U.K. TV channels such as the BBC and ITV, but also supply music to other production companies that broadcast worldwide. If forwarded for D071024HM, please do not submit the same material. They offer non-exclusive, 50/50 deals. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Mar. 12, 2008. TAXI # S080312HMI tried real hard to nail the TOOL sound. I think i came close. Does anyone think this is TOO close. here is the tune.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... m=trueTalk to ya soon!!MIKE

Man Cool track. Well done.I love the syncopation. I can't hear all the nuances as it's a low res file but I'm liking it. I would be writing a melody & lyric arrangement for that without a doubt. Regardless of what happens with submission. Has potential to be a great song if you pic the right melody & vocalist. Very pearl Jam to me. The more I listen the more I like it. Brain-snappingly good. They seem to require broadcast quality may I suggest a few things just to nail this deal. The only things that stand out as needing to be looked at is the Clean Guitar intonation in the intro & consecutive similar section. Sounds slightly out of tune. Maybe tightening some of it up a bit more...particularly rhythm guitar & drums as they stand out as needing to work very tightly together. And maybe smack those drums harder at the last bar with maybe the snare to accent the syncopated ending to support the guitar line..I'm diggin it dude.Well DoneZoltan

Hi Mike. I am anything but an expert, but I think this is very very good. Stupid question, but are you actually playing the guitar here. I don't have any electronic gadgets and just wonder if anyone else out there is actually playing instruments. I will be watching for your upcoming posts. I used to play like that:) (59 years old now) Good luck Paul

Hey Paul... yup, i played the guitars. I also played the bass guitar. if you are interested I used a Gibson Flying V and blended sounds from a 1986 Marshall JCM 800 and a Mesa Boogie Mark IV. I mic'ed a marshall 4x12 with a Shure SM57 and a Sennheiser MD 421. the bass guitar was played direct through a marshall jmp-1 preamp and a T.c. electronic g-force.p.s. i still get laugh whenever i think about your gassy reindeer song!! hehehetalk to ya soonMIKE

Gibson Flying V. Now that's a guitar I haven't heard about for years. That would be worth a bit now. if it's 80's model.

Mike...Yeah!!!!great sounding recording, and music, too...I was listening to Iron Maiden and Korn yesterday, ...and the ala's hit more of the vibe you're getting at 1:30-ish sooner in the song....also drum part here is a little ackward in the kickdrum fill at the top with a huge fade in is a little un-real-ish....great sound!!! I think you may be on the lighter side of the heavy..for library music this should work!!!that's my .02....with a disclaimer....I'm wrong about calling the listings at least half the time.....good luck,Vicky

Quote:oooops ... i didn't realize i posted the lo res file.... i switched that to the hi res... Don't think it's anything you had ta' do with it. For some strange reason, people's music pages are defaulting to Low Streaming, no matter how many times you set it on High Streaming. I've changed it several times now, and it keeps reverting back to Lo. Wassup wit dat? Cool tune dude! I'd like to hear it again when the Hi-Lo streaming problem is resolved.ibanez468

Hey everyone.. thanks for the comments...the huge drum fade is a technique i "took" directly from TOOL'S tune Lateralus. The fill is in the style of Danny Carey (tool's drummer) I know it is kinda of weird but it sounds something like what he would do! (i think!) All of those weird poly-rhythmic things happening in that tune are modeled from Tool tunes i have heard. those guys are crazy!!! especially the drummer!! i took me a good deal of time to program those drums!
