Should I submit this? I can't keep throwing away $5 so I'm being very picky these days.

I would definitely leave out all the high brass licks. They're way too midi sounding. The vocal is Al Jarreau all over again. ("We're In This Love Together") That's not necessarily meant to be bad, just dated, plus where's the hip-hop element they requested. Plus the title, "You Make Love So Good," doesn't really say very much worth putting to music. EG Is there any such thing as "Bad Love?" Opinions are like "belly buttons." We all have one, but that said, you're too talented to waste the $5 bucks on a misplacement.karafinman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 11:45 amShould I submit this? Re: Is this Jazzy Song too Old-School?
Save your money... your track is quite dated sounding. The 80s brass patches and the Yamaha DX7 tines key patch takes me straight back to 1987 or so.
The reference tracks are all clean and crisp, two of them have a modern yet still classic sounding Rhodes patch of some kind. I think this track could be usable if you kept the vocal and redid all of the instrument parts with more current sounding patches.
Did you try any A/B mix comparisons? Listen to your track, then listen to one of the reference tracks. Compare the audio quality, the bass in the mix, the sounds of the snare and kick, instrument panning, etc. Then try to emulate that in your own track if you can.
Keep working!
