Isn't it interesting
hi there.
i am a new taxi member...
got my first submission response back and it got returned.. however its interesting that the songs i thought were my strongest were the ones they least liked, and the ones i thought were least strongest, were the ones they liked the most.
its good to hear feedback from that perspective.
anyone else in similar situation?
cheers

Congrats on your first submission response, sorry it wasn't a forward. That happens to me all the time, what I like the most other people don't and what I think is just a toss off song that I hate, other people love. Just personal opinions that vary. See if another reviewer says the same thing about the songs and you might start to see a trend toward certain songs.

Welcome to Taxi and the forum,
Be sure and read the newbie thread & rules etc... It will help you get around a little better here.
We're all in the same boat bud. Remember, when you write your own music, most of the time it is EXACTLY your style. Which could be some odd derivitive of blended or fused genres. Your weaker ones, in your mind, might be less of your favorite, self developed style but more mainstream. It is intersting to get anothers take on your music.
getting critigued returns is not unlike stepping into the shower, expecting hot water to pur over your body, relaxing your muscles BUT then BAM, reality check.. NO HOT WATER.... buururrrr
I remember when I played out all the time live, I would get the craziest amount of different sound a like comments. For example, I remember one night in particular, because the girl that kept following me around between sets, like a lost puppy dog, was amazingly attractive.. scary attractive. Anyway, she said the banded reminded her of Greenday... that same night I was told we sound like Ozzy, then I got Triumph... now that is something that will make your head spin and say .. WHATT??? Greenday, Triumph and Ozzy??? What a wierd night that was...

Ha! More like you're in the shower when somebody flushes elsewhere in the building and you get scalded.

Joe,
I once took three songs in to pitch to Russ Zavitson while he was still working out of Muscle Shoals and as advised so often, I put my strongest song first and weakest last.
He signed one of the tunes to a publishing deal that day and you guessed it. It was the third track.

Re: Isn't it interesting
That happens a lot.
I've noticed that when I'm working on a song, there will be some part I don't like about it nagging me. But I think many other things in the song are great. Invariably, the feedback points out something that could be better-- but it's an aspect that never even occurred to me. The part that I didn't like often is a non-issue or even a positive.... And what I thought was great? Well, often not and a rude awakening.
This is why screener and/or professional feedback is so important. We are all generally way too close to our own work. It takes an experienced, unbiased, and independent outsider (not friend or family!) to really hear it, leaving out the emotion we attach to our creations.

on my most recent taxi "return", the screener complimented me on using a high quality professional singer. on the grid, she got a "7" for the vocal. sometimes you feel like you're wandering around in Alice's rabbit hole.
