It's Not Impossible (Finished Demo)

Post by cameron » Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:22 am

Hi Gang,I threw my work tape of this song up on P2P a week or two ago. Just got this finished demo back. I think Jimi's crew did a wonderful job of bringing my 70s-sounding work tape up to date. Seems to me the way they did it I could pitch it for either R&B/country artists a la James Otto or adult contemporary a la Jack Johnson. Whaddya think? Wow Cam, this is your most current-sounding demo yet. Yeah, James Otto, Billy Currington, Jake Owen...and even some adult contemporary stuff. It actually sounds like a Hootie and the Blowfish or Sister Hazel song to me Andy

Good song. Has a really good feel to it, but what really stands out to me is that the mix and overall quality is fantastic. Also great guitar work.

Andy and Rkat- Thanks, that's music to my ears (no pun intended).Adam - No that's not me singing. Dammit I wish I could sing like that. That's Ben (don't know his last name) from Nashville Demo Studio. You know, I hope it does go places, but compared to this biz you probably have better luck playing the lottery. I really like the fact that it's crossover enough to pitch for a variety of listings, so maybe that will helpPaul, thanks for the comments. Cam

Cam, I second all the comments about how great the song sounds overall. I like the organ combined with the dobro. The one thing about the arrangement/production that kinda stuck out to me was the space between the verse phrases... there's a couple of holes there without much interesting going on musically (after guy like me, yeah...... and think you'll see, yeah.......etc.) Would be great to add a little musical "answer" phrase to fill those 8 bars. Dobro?Again, this is the only constructive thing I could come up with. Overall, I really like the vibe.Nice job!Derek

nice job cam!the only neg comment i had that stuck out was already said by Derek, the kinda "empty" spaces in there where he mentioned...like the hand clapping BTW! very interesting poppy tune, can't pin down an exact genre, it still has a retro ring to me, but i think could work for several genres--hmmm, i think you are now officially "cross gendered"...LOL...nice job by all,the best,wh

Derek, Marc and WH, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I think they were going for the spartan Jack Johnson kind of feel, but I agree it needs a little something in the empty spaces too. A few Larry Carlton/Steely Dan style guitar licks would be nice. Funny, I had thought of putting the hand claps in my work tape in the same place but I didn't. I never mentioned it to the studio but I guess they had the same idea. The song never really "opens up" (for lack of better word) until that point. It's like a big release of tension that I'm thinking maybe should happen a little earlier on the song. I don't mean that the hand claps should be earlier, just the tension release. Does that make sense?Cam
