Re: Italian Song (Comments please!)
Hi Al, sounds like a winner to me. The sniffle, though authentic, probably should be edited out . I don't hear much reverb, though I am prone to over do it when mixing, so what I may think is normal may be considered excessive by others..., but I'd listen to Vince's & Mazz's advise regarding that.Nice even playing throughout, though there is a slight volume spike towards the end (1:44 mark or so), but that could just be an expressive moment. Good luck with this listing.Fog

Nice, jaunty work! Well-performed, and you definitely don't have a key-clicky problem. Good recording quality.Only nits:1) Lose the sniff (save it for the album track)2) Noticed a very slight time wobble (around 1:15) when the quick arpeggios start. I listened a few times and it is capital-s Subtle, so I'm not even sure I'd suggest a re-do, since the general flow of the tune has a shifting, romantic quality....just, perhaps, something to watch out for in future.Nice piece, and great to hear the variety of creative talent on this board! gw

Hey Al Italian, I really enjoyed your playing... in a world where so much of what we write is synth it's always good to hear a real person playing a real instrument! I don't doubt you'll get a forward (given that you take the other guys' advice re recording hiss etc). I had a listen to the other piece on your page too - the jazz piece - wow that is really beautiful! Is that you playing piano? Georgie

Thanks everyone for listening and your thoughtful replies:Zoom- thanks for your EQ and verb suggestions. After further discussions it appears that power conditioning may also be a root cause Dave- thanks too for your listen. My "metronose" gets a little erratic over 140BPM!Wrds- glad the clicky problem didn't appear. I have to make a conscious effort to not face the mic squarely and to keep the bass side turned away. Accordion can be played very rubato, so hopefully the timing changes will be seen as natural. Foglyte- glad you like Ragazze. I have high hopes for your Santa Lucia and would love to hear it post submission. Vikki- sorry it didn't play. Would have loved to have you hear this. George- my wife has been after me for a long time to record my accordion songs. Your feedback helped seal my commitment. Thank you!Jay- I'm glad this transported you. A lot less expensive than Al Italia!Ciao! And Happy Thanksgiving!Al

As suggested above, a smidge of compression and EQ might help bring out those fast triplet arpeggios that seem to be getting a bit lost, dynamically; perhaps you're balancing speed versus key clack, but a little more oomph from the bellows might be the better solution. I didn't really notice any rhythmic wobble, maybe it's like a horse gathering itself for a leap, seemed natural to my ears. I think the reverb's just right. I'm with mazz, on this; nail down those details and you've likely got a forward, here.
