Hi again, Taxi Peer-to-Peer fellows!
My second pitch on this compilation

(Le George V is a known place in Paris, my feel of the waiter that was a bit lost!)

We're searching for Emotional Cocktail Jazz Instrumentals (or Cues) in a range of emotions and moods including (but not limited to): Fun, Swanky/Classy, Nostalgic, Uplifting, Longing, Breezy, Sultry, Melancholy, Heartbreaking, Relaxing, etc., etc., etc....

We're purposely not giving any references for this Listing because a variety of tracks that effectively convey a mood or emotion that a music supervisor, executive producer, film director, or editor would find compelling and "useful" could be fair game.

Our A&R team will have a simple mandate: Are they GREAT? Do they instantly capture, convey, or embellish an emotion or deepen a mood? Do they sound ready to go as is? Would they work well for placements in Film, TV, or maybe even Advertising? Would TAXI's music licensing clients be happy to hear them and want to sign them because they know they can make money with them? Once again, the bar will be high for this request.

When the track opened, I immediately heard cocktail lounge and thought it would be perfect. But then... I could be wrong, but I don't think the melody line, though quite beautiful and well played, stays in that realm. I'm curious what others think. It's an absolutely great track though!

Oh, not a matter of cup of tea at all and not the case anyway. I just wasn't sure if that would fall into cocktail lounge jazz category which is what the listing wants. I asked a good Taxi friend of mine who specializes in that genre, Bob Mete, to pop in.

Hello Pierre,
Here are my thoughts, please take them with a grain of salt, It's a nice piece, has lots of potential,

The first 12 seconds are spot on, nice 6/8 feel, the piano chords are great the trio sounds wonderful,- ok they set up the tune ,but then it changes to a more straight 3/4 Waltz, Now it is floating. I 'm sure you are still in 6/8. But the piano stopped comp'ing and the song lost it's momentum. (just a consideration or another tune possibility, Keep the 6/8 grooving, and ad lib off the melody , state the melody, then work off of it). The flute player has a wonderful sound, ( I'd take the time and go in a remove all the breath sounds before he plays.) (reminds me of (jean-pierre rampal). The other thing here is the Flute is just playing the melody, later in the piece when the clarinet is playing the melody, you are playing leading lines to the melody (nice), and you are ad lib'ing... then you bring the flute and clarinet together. Personally, here I think the flute is mixed way to hot, when two different instruments are playing the same thing the blend should be ( what instrument is that because it creates it's own sound).
My suggestions especially on the mix, Keep the piano comping and bring it up in the mix and pushing the jazz waltz feel, I'd bring the bass up throughout the piece, I'd bring down the instruments, this piece could work for the other things the listing mentioned, advertising etc, but if I was in a cocktail lounge I'm not sure this is what I'd want to be hearing. Third listen, Yes the flute is way to up front, it would interfere with dialogue etc.

Things I've learned about cocktail jazz placements. They are way in the background, filling space, creating the ambiance, it's not a concert. My melodies in this genre are more melodies that are leading to the next chord change, that keeps things flowing with out being busy. I'd also spread the instruments out in the mix as they would be on stage. Everything to me seems to be front and center, this would help create a pocket for the lead instruments.

Good luck, again it's a nice tune, my comments are with respect the listing about Cocktail Jazz.

Hi bob, Many thanks for your comments.
The tune is in 3/4 all tru! Jazz waltz have this ''Triplet swing feel'' that is reminder of a 6/8.
There is no clarinet, it's a soprano saxophone (you're not the only one to make this mistake even the Screeners do it!)
One thing for sure, I'm not touching the melody, I think it's very good!
But the instruments level are to be adressed for sure.

Now that I've heard the whole track, it's really hard to tell what the screeners would do. This is a quality track, it comes down to how the screeners interpret the "emotional cocktail" description.

The Flute listing is definitely my first intention.
As for the Lounge, not sure we have an exact definition here...
I'll tweak the mix so it can be more ''ambiance'' maybe?
