I can never tell...All comments welcomed!!Peace, Geoin a word. no - it's not modern rock. it's very very 70's .... and tho it's a bit more advanced than I'd say these guys were ever capable of - it talks to me of blue oyster cult. meets 90's tears for fears ...with less style than T4F captured ....there are moments of late 90's in the vocal arrangement if not the delivery .... what's tough is that the notes are all there on the vocals - completely ... but the voice doesn't have the cutting edge of a lead singer in rock, today or yesterday. that intangible little thing that seperates a great singer from a good vocalist ... I know a guy like this singer and he is technically great but his voice doesn't capture people. this is similar. fabulous voice for backgrounds and fillers and second vocalist but not a voice that'll carry this sort of material over the top.sorry - but that's the way of things ... (and of course, sometimes a band comes along and disproves that but it IS few and far between and usually is accompanied by that voice doing a completely awesome song or the voice just fits the tune better than a better edged singer could - and that doesn't happen much)instrumentally, the song is modern up till the 11 second mark and then it turns back in time ...not real tight on the chorus either ..... or should I say prechorus ... and the harmony is a bit too dissonant on the chorus to be modern ... unless you're going for the metal pop meets kate bush crowd.all in all - I think this an ambitious song that is successful but isn't viable in the modern market. I appreciate the talent that is present in it's performance and it's writing but it is no where near what is flying around on cell phones and iPods today. not that I believe much of that is any damn good cus about 70% of it IS crap but of the bands that do have talent that are being played and DL'd - this is a bit too far back in history to be expected to be now.sorry but you asked.

Gotta say CJ, you do come across as a bit of an "expert" in some of your posts. It would be nice to hear some of your songs too and maybe know some of your background. That doesn't mean your opinions aren't valid (I actually think it sounds a bit dated too to be honest with you) just that it would give your opinions a bit more credibility (or not). I apologize if you've posted this previously and I've missed it.Cam

I can't argue the dated label.... and since it was written for my cousin who is no longer with us I happy with it as a successful but outa date song.... thanks for the listen Cam....Peace, Geo

Amp,The vocals are a little low and I think that making them HOT may help this tune. I like the song and what it says. Dated or not it all comes around eventually. Make the vocals fat, hot and crisp and see if that helps.Kitz

Amp,There is so much good stuff in this tune!! However, cold wind blows maybe should not ascend melodically, that section is a little awkward melodically. "On and on" seems to be drawn out. Maybe something like "on and on he goes" and crescendo out instead of extending that section. Leave the mystery. There are a couple of spots in the solo where the guitar bends don't quite make it to pitch. You might want to push them up.Just a thought - on the end you might let the guitar die much quicker and the vocals hold the end alone.I think you're so close to a finish. Like I said - I hear so much good stuff in here. Just my dos pesos.Kitz

Have to say I find your comparisons kind of odd.... You like raspy singers you can't understand.... OK... heh ... can't disagree that the comparisons sound odd - but I hear what I hear AND sometimes it's just moments that bring on the thoughts, not necessarily a whole works.and yeah, I like raspy singers, and pure lead vocalists and this and that - and I like your voice too but in this kind of song, I just don't think it comes across as cutting ... on different material, it might.and I do understand how it feels to have somebody tell you that. O's and AH's ... they been around forever - when coming from someone outside of one's "world", you either consider it OR you don't. if it makes you feel any better, I recall even hearing a few seconds where a lower register geddy lee came to mind - and it's hard to imagine anyone telling him he's not a lead singer isn't it? I didn't mention that - cus ... well ... I forgot ...Quote:Not spose to be what's flying around on cell phones.... you don't know me.... I don't listen to ala's ...good. I hate the craze. but it doesn't negate the fact that "modern" music is being listened to on crap equipment and you asked if it sounded modern so I just assumed .... my bad ....hope that clears some things up.cheers.cj

No probs..... nice to make your acquaintance cj..... I'm a British subject living in the US of A .... just so you know... not me singing... my BF... we get the vocal comment alot... but I treasure our friendship more than a grasp at the mythical brass ring so I stick with him.... besides since I'm not trying to actually sound like anyone else.... why bother getting a singer that sounds like everyone else..... hence the raspy singer dig ..... playful dig I might add....I only ask leading genre questions to see if something has a shot for a listing, not my main concern.... more worried about mix quality etc... working on my songwriting/engineering chops so the last paragraph of your original critique was what I was most concerned with and that was positive so I'm all good..... Thanks for stopping by cj of small case.... I look forward to reading more of your critiques in the future....Peace, GeoP.S. The lack of a sign off at the bottom bothered me the most.... just my proper British BS rearing it's stylishly coifed head.
