I thought this was cool.September is Histiocytosis Awareness Month!Spread the Word about Rare Histiocytic Disorders. Disease Quick Facts: Juvenile Xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a rare benign histiocytic disorder.JXG is characterized by groups of yellow, red, or brown papules or nodules (known as lesions).JXG may be present at birth, but most often arises in infancy.Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare form of non-Langerhans-cell histiocytosis.ECD is also known as Erdheim-Chester syndrome or polyostotic sclerosing histiocytosis. The first case of ECD was reported by W. Chester and Jakob Erdheim in 1930. ECD affects predominantly adults, with a mean age of 53 years. Rosai-Dorfman (RD) disease is a rare disorder characterized by over-production and accumulation of histiocytes in the lymph nodes of the body.RD most often affects the lymph nodes of the neck (cervical lymphadenopathy) however, in rare cases can affect the following: central nervous system, eyes, upper respiratory tract, skin, and head and neck. The exact cause of RD is unknown. Some researchers suggest that the disorder may be caused by an infectious agent. Symptoms of RD are large, painless lymph nodes in neck, underarms, or groin (can be the size of a grapefruit), along with a fever. It’s time to spread the word about these diseases and we need your help!To learn more about histiocytosis visit www.histio.org

Wierd! I had a dream earlier this week that seemed to last all night. I was trying to get home for the entire dream: Hitchhiking, driving a broken down truck, walking and riding a very strange bicycle. I woke up exhausted, and that feeling lasted for several days. I'm finally recovering.I may have forgotten to take my bed-time meds that first night. I sure won't do it again!!

Just got and completed a volunteer application for the Histiocytosis Assoc. of America. I'm excited! This means more opportunities for educational presentations .

Good news. At our church small group tonight, I talked w/ 2 Dr.'s who are part of our congregation. They are both interested in making some E-Mails to get me in touch w/ other Dr.'s to talk to about the disease. They also suggested I talk to Duke and UNC w/ the possibility of talking to med students to increase awareness of this disease and others before they enter the field.

Oh, my gosh! Yoga must be good for ya. I was so sore that I had to take some Ibuprofen, and when that didn't work, I took a muscle relaxer before bed. Felt much better the following morning .

Man, yeah! Those Flexiril really do the trick, especially now that I'm working all those muscles that I haven't worked in a while or maybe never have .Thanks for your thoughts, Dave.
