Just curious on a feed back...??

Post by gitanosoy » Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:57 am

Hi All,

I usually read the feedback, forward or a return and move on with respect to the screeners review but this one I don't understand and hear specially that I have been studying and playing gigs in latin bands for the past 35 years. The guitar chords are a traditional strumming pattern including the percussion so please let me know what you think of the RETURN REVIEW, I am just curious.

Thank you,

Before going to read the feedback - so's not to be influenced - and, admittedly - NOT MY GENRE; but to these Old-Guy ears, the kick/drum track was distracting & 'boomy'.
My 2 cents.
Now to go read what the OFFICIAL REPORT has stated.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for listening..I don't hear the boom on the drums through my monitors, all 3 sets but I will try an experiment for next time and mix a track on my secondary headphones which are the same as what the screeners use.

Thanks for the reply

For what it's worth - or, just so that I can learn what you are aiming for, and emulating - can you post a link to a reference track of your own choice
(say - something from YouTube?) that is a good example of that combination of guitar & percussion of its traditional style?
Like one you might use to A/B compare yours to it/theirs?

Well - again, for what it's worth - it's pretty cool that the 'global reach' of TAXI and these forums, allows introducing otherwise unknown/unheard genre and music of different countries and cultures.
AND - it's pretty amazing that TAXI employs screeners to cover such a wide array and variety.
Thanks for taking the time, and making the effort, to post that example; opening up 'new worlds' to some of us.
Cheers, Amigo!

You are welcome..yeah Taxi is great for this..I have discovered new artists and genres from track references that I would have never clicked on youtube just because...

Thanks for always replying and being so supportive.

Hi André

I have listened three times - once with AKG K812 and twice with Beyerdynamic MMX 300 (2nd ones definitely bass biased). I can see what Peter means and, yes, maybe another kick sample with less thump could have worked better. But the review does not mention this at all (and I don't find it that pronounced) and instead says rhythm issues, which I cannot hear at all. So, slightly puzzled here, as well. Also, really the kick was the only thing standing out a little (having, of course, read Peter's posts first). I could not hear any problems with the rest of the percussion.

In any case a very nice track! A warm summer night in an outside restaurant with that music... :)

Tom
Hi Tom,

Thank you for listening..Exactly my point..it critiques the percussion being of time..so you think it is worth writing an email to Taxi regarding this or let it go..I am easy either way..I just wanted other ears to hear it...I can fix the drum level issue for next time but I can't fix something I don't hear is wrong according to the screener so I can submit again for another opportunity.

THANKS AGAIN...I will listen with my headphones for re mixing as I don't hear them through my monitors

Hi Andre, nice track.... I think I feel what the screener is saying that rhythm doesn't have a pocket for the guitar to sit in.... notice the reference track on YouTube you posted does not have drums like this.... I feel like the track would be awesome without the drums at all it has a great groove like that. The drums are not boomy what I think they are feeling is that Kick drum just feels out of place... It's like a rock kick drum you wouldn't hear that on a traditional track most likely a hand drum to carry that low end...
To me the track is awesome!! the drums just don't let it breathe like an authentic band would.

Best of luck
John
