Korean indie Folk/Pop tune, yay its finished!

Post by silvercord » Sun Apr 06, 2008 11:30 pm

Hi friends, i thought i would share a new song that i wrote featuring the lovely Kim Young Eun on vocals:It's a song about a school child daydreaming in class.Haven't we all been there before?(As Korean students spend Tons of time in class, and being an English teacher here, I thought it would be nice to convey that I understand they would rather be playing than study study study.)I'd love to know what you all thinkHere it is:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true taxi d/l: http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ad=1here's a link that im SURE you will be able to d/l if you haveproblems with the taxi link(and is better quality http://www.yousendit.com/download/www/a ... EEwTVE9PQI hope you all dig it. I am thankful i had the chance to produce this song with Miss Kim (and the translated lyrics: "Daydreaming"Looking through the window in the classroom.Where i want to be is far, far away.Close my eyes, Fly high up to the sky.Lay down in the clouds, feel the cool breeze.Have I gone too far?Came back home, I’m waiting for mom to be home.I fall asleep and I’m there again.I open my hands, with sunshine.I listen to the waves.I want a little bit more.Passing the river flowing silently.Riding the moonlight in the sky.Go far away following stars to a beautiful place.Lay in the clouds feeling the cool breeze.Sit on the shore listening to the waves.Think of the time with my eyes closed.

I lived in Korea for 3 years. I studied for my Master's degree in music composition at Keimyeong in Daegu. Had to pass the language proficiency test in order to study there. Since I speak Korean quite well, I go back every two months or so and sell silver jewelry to silver shops. This finances my living in Bali! Good playing on the tune, also good singing and good production. When I first listened to this song, the repeated notes both in the intro's accompaniment and in the first verses melody struck me as not as good as they could be. The song also has the issue of tricking you into thinking the song is going to start after a four measure intro and then throws in more intro before the tune really starts. It cadences just fine to the point after the fourth beat of the fourth measure of the intro. It feels like the tune is going to start so you don't need the extra beats. This is also where the repeated notes are in the accompaniment. In my opinion the song would be A LOT stronger if you cut that out.Anyway, the rest of the tune takes us somewhere interesting. It also doesn't hurt that she sounds really cute. One of my friends is from a fairly famous Korean group called Shincheon Blues. He's the drummer. I've got his number. They had a rock music video that made the airwaves in Korea back in the day.

Thanks Graig, i would for sure be interested in mixing the song upchanging stuff around, adding different stuff...i have a hang up of not being able to remix something unlessi let it breath for a while..and if you visit Korea every two months..stop bye and creatingsometing with me! it'd be fun! Im in Seoul on the east side, notfar from Jamshil....but i guess one doesnt have tobe physically in the same place to colab thanks to computers and internet and proggies~..im a sucker for making music with others.its really special/important to meso when was back in the day for the Shinchon Blues?is this the Shonchon thats nearby HongDae? Funny as I spent the weekend there walking around that areafun stuff.these days i mostly cringe at any korean mainstream music.but i really dig the indie scene..had any favorite korean acts back in that day, Craig?

Actually, just saying the tune takes us somewhere interesting is an understatement. It's better than that. It's emotionally moving even if a person doesn't know what she's saying. Of course when the music affects people that way it's very good. We can hear your heart and the vocalists and we can feel a little bit sad, a little bit happy, a little bit hopeful. For me, it's like that scene in Ratatouille when the food critic eats the ratatouille and it's so good he's transported back in time to another place when he was young. It's like that for me. It brings back good memories and friends from Korea. Ee noraeneun jeongmal yebbeoyo. Tangsheeneun aju chakhan eumakga ibneeda. Choayo.

Yeah, I can look you up next time I go. I had a plan to go on the 27th but it looks like I'll be in Japan then. But for sure I'll be in Korea 2 months after that and I always spend time in Seoul. Yes, the Shincheon near HongDae but they are in Seoul and they probably mean the river by the same name. Doesn't it run through Seoul? I don't remember. Anyway, cheon means river. I'm not sure of the exact dates but, that would have been around 10 or 15 years ago.I wasn't there in those days but I met him when I was in Seoul 3 years ago. He's still playing music. If you ask some 40 year old Korean rockers about Shincehon Blues they will remember. Other people too as they were quite famous. I also met the the traditional Korean Changu drummer Kim Deok Su. He's short with a Goatee but a master performing musician. He did some collaborations with an up and coming jazz violinist who is also Korean. Really friggin' good. On the level with Jean Luc Ponty but more intense.I like Ee Su Young's ballads. It's mainstream but not like Ee Hyo Lee. But come on, you've got to like Boa especially just after she graduated. WOW! But maybe it wasn't the music I liked as much as her....umm...cute button nose....yeah that's it. Oh, and that reminds me, would you please ask Kim Young Eun if she will marry me. Thanks.Kwenchansubneeda SilvercordShiI can't understand the sentence tangshin hankuk do wa yoTangshin means you. Hanguk means Korea. but neither word has the marker Eun or Neun to let me know which one is the subject of the sentence. and Do wa yo means hot, it's hot or I'm hot. But I think you mean something else by it. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe you meant Tangshin eui hanguk eo (hangumaleo) "CH"oayo. Not "D"oayo. In which case that would make it a typo and a slip of the tongue is no fault of the mind. The next line says, "please come into my studio." Yeah, Korean is fun. What is "insang"? Perhaps the last phrase can be literally translated as "just because music play do exists/is." Haha Korean is weird to the uninitiated yeah? Which can be loosely translated as Just play music. Although it also has the possibility of meaning a request for me to play normal music. Which in my case is definitely a possibility. I'm trying to be more normal I swear! But it's HARD!!!O.K. gotta gobyeGreg
