LAtin Percussion VST suggestions?

Hi All,

I'm having a time trying to find a good LP VST (not loops) to work with my DAW. I have tried Joe's percussion and Piano Vintage beatbox but they do not load. I am using Studio One. I don't want to spring $ until I know it will work. Any suggestions?

Check out Native Instruments "Cuba". I've used it in a few tracks which got placed in a couple of TV shows.

I use Addictive Drums' Session Percussion, but yeah, the Kontakt stuff is really good, too..

Those VSTs can be pretty nice, but there's also something to be said for recording live instruments. You can build a nice percussion library relatively cheaply thanks to pawn shops, estate sales and eBay. I swear by my https://naturalacousticslab.com/ shakers. Things to start with: shaker, claves, tambourine, guiro, cabassa and cowbell (of course). Bongos are also nice to have, I use mine often. Nice to haves include timbales and congas, but they take up more room than hand percussion.

Playing real instruments gives your music a more human feel, and your daw may be able to quantize audio tracks (Logic does for sure). Just go easy on the strength because you don't want to lose that human feel.

Yup, if you can poke a keyboard in rhythm, you can learn hand percussion; putting together a kit is fun, and if you get even a little bit good, there's lots more gigs than for guitarists, ask me how I know. (I gig on djembe, twice a week) A quick way to get good is to jam along with a drum machine or loops; I even bought a looper so I can go out and play with myself, by myself, no more splitting the cash, lol.
