Lend your ears - Booker T / Oceans tune for dispatch listing

Post by andygabrys » Sun Feb 19, 2012 9:35 pm

the tune

Book 'Em (WIP) on my TAXI page

for this listing due tomorrow:

"Go To" SOUL/FUNK/CHILLOUT INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS a la David Holmes to Booker T and the MG's, etc., are needed by a Top-Tier Los Angeles based Music Publisher for Film/TV placements as well as movie trailers. QUOTING THE PUBLISHER: "I need composers that can create tracks reminiscent to the 'Oceans 11' soundtrack by David Holmes, but with the classic grooves of Booker T and the MG's." Instrumentation is open, but should sound AUTHENTIC to the genre and the artists referenced. As always, DO NOT copy or rip-off the referenced artists. Use them ONLY as a guide for VIBE, MOOD, and TONE. The tracks you submit will be their first impression of whether you could be a "GO TO" composer for their ongoing Film/TV needs. For that reason, please submit at least TWO tracks so they can see the full scope of possibilities with your material and your production style. If you don't have an extensive list of credits, it's okay... but be sure to attach your Bio and include anything that might show your capabilities to turn around material quickly and professionally. EXCELLENT performances are ESSENTIAL and broadcast quality is needed for this one. Please submit 2-3 instrumentals online or per CD, include bio with credit list/discography. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than NOON (PST) on Monday, February 20, 2012. TAXI# D120220IN

Close / far? too MG's? not enough Oceans?

Great...I really like this. Very nice live/organic feel. So refreshing!!

BTW, great mix. I'm really impressed at how well it's translating. It sounded great on all 3 sets of speakers in my studio here. Not easy to do, but you did it!

Hi Andy,
Sounds great - really captures the spirit of Booker T. Cool melodies and funky grooves.
I've got a tune called 'Smokin Stax' on my Taxi page. I think I might give it a try. Just in time!
Cheers,
Doug

Hi Andy,
Couldn't find this in the regular listings. Guess this must be a Dispatch? I see they also want 2 songs. Next time!
Cheers,
Doug

Great sounds! I'd move the snare back by a few ticks; it's a shade too 'on top of the beat', and needs to lay back in the pocket more. (mainly just in the verse section) Other than that, smokin'!
