Line 6 Pod HD Pro

I just sold my Roland XV-5080 and ordered the Line 6 Pod HD Pro rack guitar processor. It should be here by the end of the month! I think this will take care of pretty much all my guitar processing needs for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, the first instantiation of POD technology gained a reputation for being difficult to mix; not so, with gen 3 onward. You're gonna love it.

I think the POD's of today sound pretty good (great!) and are flexible and fairly easy to use.

if you are looking to get more bang for your setup and not kill your computer with the virtual stuff, they are a great idea. but dig that there are plenty of options.

Chuck since you use ProTools, at some point you are going to upgrade to Protools whatever. AVID always has a deal where they sell the Eleven RACK for a couple hundred bucks more than the ProTools upgrade price.

Eleven RACK is pretty slick in the way that you can record several channels at once and store the settings in PT as well. like record the dry track, plus the amp modeled sound. don't like it, you can reamp the dry track (either through the Eleven or through a separate standalone amplifier), which Eleven is set up for with the special I/O on the unit.

plus you can use Eleven live with a midi controller like the Ground control unit.

I've been using and enjoying the Line 6. I finally connected it, via a USB cable, to my computer in order to utilize the programming application, and that made a huge difference in ease of programming. The sound palette is extensive and very tweakable, and the overall sound quality is excellent. However, I haven't methodically compared it to other guitar processing devices or plugins, so I can't offer much in that regard.

I have Amplitube, my only complaint is that it is a resource hog. If I were to go with another software package, SOS magazine seems to be really into Softube Vintage Amp Room - the demos sound great. I've owned many of the multieffect units - Boss GT10, Line 6 Pod (years ago), VOx ToneLab...I seemed to always like going back to my amp. However my understanding of production has gotten better, and so has the gear making me think I should try it again. If the built in stomps in the multieffects could rival what I get out of Amplitube, I would pick it up partly because I could use it live as well. Just listening to the Axe FX Ultra demos...ridiculously great sound; if you want to sink $2000 plus into one. (Note to self: no more gear until I actually start making some money off this).

No, still using Amplitube......checked out the Line 6 . Like the online demos of it. I've never been big into using lots of effects so am mainly looking into the quality of the amp modeling. But even $500 is a lot of money to spend to forego the inconvenience of how resource hungry Amplitube can be when the work around is simply to submix. Axe FX seems to be in a class of it's own; for $2500 for the Axe FX2 it should be.

In my experience as a guitarist, it's sometimes cheaper/easier to go with a system that provides repeatable results. Given what $500 worth of Line6 hardware provides, I don't find the price unreasonable. Of course, the online demos will highlight the effects, since that's what they're selling, but what I'm buying is the quality of the various amp sims...
