Listing this

Post by squidlips » Mon Sep 10, 2007 10:38 am

Okay, this one has me stumped.......I've submitted and been forwarded on this one for World Music but I'm wondering.....I got a forward for New Age but the reviewer commented that it might be too "passionate." Can someone explain? I suppose he meant that New Age is serene or tranquil but I thought that it was also meditative, which this song resembles a bit. Maybe I'm wrong?http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.as....sionI NDEX=6738

Well, technically one definition of passionate is "having strong or being dominated by great emotion" and an alternative is "marked by strong sexual desire" I think that although great emotion is displayed, the sound itself is a little slinky/sexy in a 100% great way I think it sounds fantastic, but if someone didn't know what the words were/meant, it definitely feels like there's a little sexual tension there to me in the track itself which I'm assuming was not your point given that it's the Lord's prayer. I LOOOOOVE this track BTW. The feel is amazing.I will add that I understand the passion showing through for this message and what may be a sincerely strong emotional longing in the meditation of this prayer. So don't think that I misunderstood the sincerity of the delivery or the intimacy that one feels toward God when in that deep communication. I've been there myself. I think that's what the screener is picking up on, outside of the blatantly "passionate" feel.Did I mention that I loooove this track?

Okay, I getcha then. So, New Age out, World Music back in!! And yep, you nailed it, kg......I felt fairly possessed with a strong sense of longing while doing this song that could easily be interpreted as sexual (or sensual). In this country (and some others) that's probably a no-no in relation to spirituality and religion contexts. Really good point. Thanks so much. Maybe film/tv then?

Squid, this is awesome!! I LOVE Middle Eastern Music and so this piece really got me going. Plus I love hearing some of the original languages from ancient times! The distorted vocals are extremely cool as well. I don't know if you've been to an Islamic country but when the Muezzin sing the call to prayer, many times it's distorted like this so it's actually a pretty authentic sound!World Music listings for sure. There's some New Age music like this out there, for instance Enigma, but it's not the middle of the road meditative New Age stuff for sure. That doesn't diminish it's worth for World listings. Submit this baby as much as you can!!!!Mazz

Thanks Mazz. This is actually one of my favorites. My whole family's either playing on it or joining me on the Buddhist chant at the end. My son (who was 12 at the time) drummed with me using doumbeks and a djembe (although no one would do that in real life over there) for some low end. Tommy did a nice job with the effects and the layered drumming on top of what we were doing. Poor guy, he thought I was nuts doing the ululations at the end. This is Mississippi, after all. LOL I thought Chris's guitar rocked and I especially love that he's doing the drumming on the intro using his guitar. Innovative boy, he is. Spent 3 years in Greece when I was a kid and there was a mosque nearby. I could hear them call to prayer every day. It musta affected me cuz I love Middle Eastern music too. So thanks for saying that you like this. This song means a lot to me, for a lot of reasons.

Hey Martin, congrats on the great deals you're getting lately. You're red hot right now! Way to go!We used a mixture of hand drums, these sorry old tom-toms dragged up from the basement, claves, an Akai MPC 2000 and the Stylus program. The triangle sound is actually a Tibetan chime I found in an alternative retail store that we alternately muted and then released. We just use what's available or I'll go out hunting for a sound and then buy it. I got lucky one time on some steel trashcans once. Just the right pitch! LOL

Wow, fantastic track! If you don't get some kind of placement with that track, we should all just pack up and go home...!The guitar work is beautiful, and I love the way you recorded it, too - sounds great. Is that you on the lead vocal? What a gorgeous, powerful voice! I have to wonder if the quality of your voice is what the screener was refering to as "too passionate"? It definitely sort of "bores" right into you (in a totally good way, mind you). The mixing is really well done, too. I'm not a big fan of the back-and-forth panning thing but, aside from that, it rocks! So, let us know when the album comes out, so I can buy it, Ok?
