Not sure if English is Andreh's first language, guys. This board has lots of international flava, that's part of its charm, IMO.

Disney is going to get thousands of songs submitted. Some bozo, someday, will hear a song on something owned by Disney that has a similar chord progression and yell "THIEVERY!"So the mighty D HAS to say that if you send it to us, we have the right to use it in the future.Do you really think that they are going to catalog every song submitted? Hell no! Do you think that MAYBE, if they are smart, that D will take the really good ones and put them in a library of sorts? MAYBE, but it is a huge company and the odds that they will just use your music and not say anything, in hopes of saving a few cents in royalties, are low. Why do I think this to be the case, in spite of the language? A person I know sent in a song to disney for a contest, didn't win that contest but was contacted to see if she'd be interested in working with that for a different project. And that project paid her some good money.Secondly, even if Disney likes my song enough to use it somewhere down the road, they still have to file cue sheets and my song is registered with my PRO, so maybe I'll get my 9cents or whatever. But more over, I sent my song to Disney, and it didn't cost me anything, and I can still pitch it elsewhere if I want, and if the big D uses it then I have a great credit from DISNEY! Finally, almost every place I'd pitch that same song to is owned by Disney anyway so I loose nothing. Its a win-win.And believe me, the song I sent in is a song I really like, and WHEN I WIN I'll let you know how it turns out. In the meantime, if I don't win, I gave it a shot with what is only going to be one of hundreds of music cues that I will eventually write. Yes, I care about all of the ditty's I pen, but they aren't going to do me any good sitting here collecting dust, and just by editing and submitting it yesterday, I got 2 or 3 new song ideas where I wouldn't have if it was left to perish on my hard drive. This is pretty much how I had it figured; somebody, probably a team of somebodies, will listen to all the submissions, and the odds are against them not finding a few gems that are perfect for some other use; the screeners have other shows/duties to go back to when the contest is done, most likely. Disney has an excellent reputation when it comes to paying their artists.(I have an acquaintance that did some some singing dubs for a young actress whom she won't name, but assures me I'd recognize. As she described it, it was one of the best experiences of her life working with top-notch people in first-class facilities, with all expenses and excellent $.)

Thanks Anne and Mojo,Hard not to be a little cynical/skeptical/paranoid sometimes after all that's happened. I did submit my tune and I feel good about it after getting perspective from all sides. Thanks All Sides!Kitz

They announced the winner. Gabriel (something) the spelling of the last name is too hard to remember, I guess because when they announced it I was a little disappointed it wasn't me. Oh well. I read the contract before submitting and didn't care what they did with the song, I just looked at it as a great opportunity, and 100K would look real good in my bank account right about now. Maybe I’m too desperate?I look forward to hearing the winning song.Happy Holidays!peace out,Al
