Lo-Fi Folk, is it?
A-List Hollywood Music Supervisor needs Moody, Atmospheric INDIE FOLK in the stylistic ballpark of Ryan Kickland, Tom Waits, etc. for a wildly popular TV show. If your song has a LITTLE twang to it, that could work, but DO NOT submit Country for this. This show also has a dark-ish, gritty, greasy feel to it, and they need SONGS that reflect that.
Opinions please on if you think this is right for above listing

A lot of Waves on the Shore
1.
Broken glass in breaking waves
That’s how you wore upon me
You blunt what’s sharp so I don’t cut
Made me a thing of beauty
That chases light in the dawn
Ch
Now that’s a lot of waves, a lot of waves
That’s a lot of waves on the shore
2.
Bleeding rain on a battlefield
You washed the dirt of my skin
And brought the rust and green grass
To overgrow my sin
Held my shaking through the war
Ch
Bridge
Drowning in sands of time
You raised me up on your tide

Re: Lo-Fi Folk, is it?
Hi Burt,
I'm definitely no expert in this genre but I think this fits the "moody/atmospheric" line of the listing. It's certainly not mainstream country. Two things that struck me though that could kick this song over the edge are:
A) if you could get a harmonica player to accompany you. What's there now doesn't really have the impact that a good harmonica player would add.
B) Your voice is much more powerful and emotional at the bridge and at the end. You might exploit that strength a little more and earlier on in the song. I wasn't quite feeling it until you hit those points of the song.
Just my two cents as always. - Roger

Hey Burt,
The attitude sounds right on for this listing. My only comment is maybe not include the background organ (?) part; it seems a bit out of character with the song.
I submitted 3 songs as well, hoping they are not too over-produced for this listing. I kinda paid more attention to the Ryan Kickland a la than to Tom Waites.
Below are the lyrics to one of them, written about a year ago when down and pissed off about Giffords getting shot in Tucson and the inanities of a BCS playoff game. Any and all comments are welcomed (mp3 is on my Taxi page, liked below in sig line).
Best of luck!

You Won’t Hear That Song on the Radio
V1
Hurricane on the horizon, the wind is kicking dust
When the road gets rocky we do what we must
An old man cries for parity, a young man cries for more
Kids are packing heat down at the corner store
Remember those sleepy summers, making love among the cotton rows?
Well, you won’t hear that song on the radio
V2
The future killed the present, the past is lessons unlearned
And there’s good reason now to be concerned
Steering clear of sanity, losing track of time
Hydroplaning on black ice across the center line
Look at all the pretty faces, no need to wake them when we go
And you won’t hear that song on the radio
V3
So Johnny, pass the bottle, watch the fires burn
It don’t get personal ‘til it’s your turn
Reeling from the randomness, getting low on luck
Lots of people saying, “We don’t give a __uck"
It may seem to shock your senses, but there is more that we don’t know
And you won’t hear that song on the radio
No, you won’t hear that song on the radio

Hey Burt! This is a great song. The chorus is chilling, because of the image of the lyric.
I usually don't say this... It's normally turn the vocal up... But the vocal to me doesn't sit right with the guitar. Is it too loud? Does it need to be compressed more? I'm not sure, but it sure is in your face, especially when you let it all out later in the song.
Just a thought... a very nice tune!
Best regards,
Ern

Re: Lo-Fi Folk, is it?
Thank you all for the feedback.
Yes I think I need to go back to vocal levels as it was late at night and I was mixing on very quiet monitors.
The organ sound is a melodian - I threw it in for some counterpoint, I had considered some harp , but was pressed for time.
After listening to it a couple of times it could just do with some piano, perhaps dispense with bass then in favour of 2 octave apart piano accompaniment?
Time for a bit more experimentation I think.
Cheers

Hey Burt,
Great song ... since your changing things try a flute in place of the organ . Flute with a lot of reverb.. Give it a little extra atmosphere.. My thoughts . really cool song though. love the vocals..

Thanks Tom
Might give the flute a go
Sorry Dennis
Knew about Tucson shooting but had to look up "BCS playoff games" ? Sorry an Ausi living in asia who follows rugby was probably not going to get that one!
I like the bleak picture you have evoked with your lyrics; love 'when the road gets rocky we do what we must' - I would think it could be served by a bridge - perhaps giving the details of the 'before' or potential 'future' vision of an America. This way you might make the 'dark, darker by offering the light' - as Suzuki would surely agree.
Thanks for your comments

Hey Dennis,
I really like your track. Reminds me of Steve Earle.
Probably too pretty for the Kickland/Waits listing,
but I really love the lyric sentiment and the whole vibe.
I found it relatable. Great job, man. I hope it's a forward.
My submissions were "When I Pray," "Right This Wrong" and "There is a Hole."

Hey Burt.
I like the feel of your track. I think it has the right mood.
I didn't get the lyrics, but maybe I'm just thick in the head.
Good luck, man.

Thanks Burpo
Don't think your thick - its just a big metaphor for a saving and persistent relationship.
I really like the 3 you submitted, there is more than a little influence of Nick Cave? Great stuff really gets the atmosphere going.
Cheers
