logic help needed.

Hi,I'm working on a latin tune, and I'm using the steinway grand piano patch from logic... been doing great all day.. went and recorded some other instruments and alls good,now I go back to the Steinway and when I just play the keys everything sounds fine... when I hit record the piano now sounds like a have the sustain pedal on.... how do I stop it from being in perpectual sustain.... This is a basic MIDI question: did you release the sustain pedal before recording? Look in your track (don't know how to do this in Logic) and see if you have a pedal down with no pedal up message. Pedal down should be CC64 value 127 and pedal up should be CC64 value 0 (might be the opposite, I'm not at my studio to verify and I tend to be lysdexic sometimes) .Sometimes when punching in piano parts, no matter what sequencer you're using, a pedal message gets erased and until you record or insert the opposite message, you'll either get all pedal or no pedal.Just a thought.Mazz

Thanks Mazz... I'll take a look at it in the morning, ( getting blurry eyed), what you are suggesting sound most probable... I messed around and couldn't get it to stop, so I opened a new track and loaded the Steinway and it was fine on that track. Hi BobYou'll be able to view the value of the control message by opening the matrix editor. Double click on a note that is stuck with the sustain on and an edit window will open. The message will be clearly marked "controller". Did you make a cut for editing purposes around where your pedal is "stuck"? If you make a cut before where you released the pedal, the "off" message will be lost in the edit.Good luckMewman

Not looking at it at the moment... what I do is consolidate the midi regions around the hanging pedal (my key command is "="). Then, in the Matrix window hit F3 (cycles through the used control paramaters in that region) a few times until the sustain controller comes up in the bottom half of the window. Then it's just a matter of drawing in the right pedal release to get it sounding right.

I'm lost.This is very simple: set up a screenset that shows the Matrix window with the hyper editor displayed below, and have it set to view cc#64. You can see where the pedal goes on and off in a nanosecond. If it needs a pedal off command (cc#64 value 0), then select the pencil tool and draw one.Half of Logic's heart and soul is its screensets. It's really simple to set it up so you just hit a different number on the 10-key to call up every view you need - such as this one.

Leave it to a moderator to make sense. Sheesh. What the heck, you think this is supposed to be easy? BTW, F3 in the Matrix Editor is "Autodefine" for the Hyper Editor. Everytime you hit it, it flips to the next used CC view. Even if you don't have the Hyper Editor open in the Matrix window, when you hit it F3 it'll pop open and go to Key Velocity, or Sustain Pedal, or whatever else you're controlling.

Good point, although sometimes its guess about what you want to view isn't always right, in which case you have to tell it what controller you'd like to view.

But if you keep hitting F3, it keeps jumping to whatever the next used controller is. Eventually you get to the one you want. Usually for me there's only 2 or 3... Off, Velocity, Sustain. Once in a while, Pitch Bend or Expression.
