Hi
We need more detail to make recommendations. What genre/style? Male or female? Do you have a rough demo recorded even if the vocal isn't that good?

Let us know more.

Hey Cliff
I listened to these songs. What is your goal for the songs? Pitching to artists to record? Pitching for Film/TV? Who is going to do the final production-- backing track, mixing vocals, final mix, etc.?

The first thing I noticed is the recordings aren't broadcast quality to pitch right now, even with a great vocal. Even for artists to re-record, the bar is very high these days. The demos they get are almost full radio productions. Also, to get an artist to cut your song, is one of the hardest hurdles out there even for the very best songwriters. Film/TV is a more attainable market but your recordings, lyrics (universal), style, and many other factors go into it.

Were you thinking of hiring just a vocalist? (usu. around $150) or having a demo service record an entire demo for you (typ. $750-$1250)? Or upping your own production skills to get the recordings where they need to be?

I'd hate to see you spend money yet without other factors being in place. One suggestion I have, since you are a Taxi member, is get a custom critique for these songs ($20/song) or maybe the one you think is strongest. I thought the wedding song had more potential. Make sure lyrics are in there and have a list of questions. It sounds like you mainly want a general songwriting review. It would be money well spent.

Also, can you PM me the lyrics with your email address? I can give you more of my own feedback if I can read along while listening.

Hope this helps!

I'm looking for someone who can sing my songs with the passion I wrote in them, and I'll put money and time in to promoting him/her.
I hear what you are saying but what exactly would you do to promote him/her? Why would they want or need you? You're assuming that your songs are so great, they'd see them as the chance of a lifetime. That's a very flawed assumption for any of of us.

Are you looking to promote an artist or promote your songs? Your above comment confused me.

The first key to success would be to write absolutely great songs. We ALL start out thinking our songs are the greatest thing since sliced bread and get a rude awakening when we find out otherwise. My advice is still to have a pro (like a Taxi custom screener) look at the songs themselves before you invest more money.

I've been at this for well over 20 years. I'm a little younger than you (68), but still in the "old fart" range. I've learned lots of the hard lessons during that time. If you ever want to do a phone chat with me and kick things around, just let me know by PM.

Best,
:D Casey

I jotted down your number. It's not a good idea to post it publicly on the forum so I suggest you edit it out. I sent you a PM (Private Message via this forum).

I believe my songs are good and can be great with the right talent.
But to be honest, the first thing you have to do is let go of the above flawed assumption. You need to be open minded to looking at this from a much different point of view. This doesn't mean you don't have songwriting talent, please don't take it that way.
