Loserville

Post by billg » Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:51 am

A couple of months ago I was sitting around bummed out about just about everything . . . our house wasn't selling, business clients owed me money (but I continued to work for them)creditors I have a revolving business debt with decided to triple my interest rate (in spite of my great credit rating) & I was going through a bout of music rejection. I decided to take matters into my own hands with one big crazy push; selling the house FSBO and lowering the price, finding a way to transfer my bad debt & telling my creditors to stuff it, letting some business clients go that couldn't pay me anymore (that hurt) making a huge effort with music contacts I had PLUS an effort to make new contacts. It was my big move out of "Loserville" and it spawned really good results PLUS this song. Nobody I've played this for has liked it, I guess that's to be expected with a personal catharsis tune.Anyway, I've put nearly everything up here regardless so there's no reason to stop now http://www.billgaunce.com/song/4

Hey Bill,I guess this could be one of those "deep album cuts" as you call em.Lyrics are cool and I definately get the sense of frustration. This reminds of some Joe Cocker in a strange way. Maybe the piano? These songs can be rejuvinating when you listen back to them. You did a great job of channeling your frustration into a song that isnt angry, its just slightly pissed off. Not my favorite of yours but I still like it lyrically and melodically.Matt

hey billy--heard this "back then". i really liked it then, "get it" completely 'cuz it fits lyrically many scenarios., and the beat/perc/bass line is very solid. i think the the hook line is very cool and catchy as hell. hey, i even dig that ring thing-- is that one of them "hotel" or frontdesk bell things when there aint nobody around? anyway, still dig it. might be a middle cut, but it would be ON the album IMHO,,,,if there makin' them anymore.the best, whps: i really dig the way you DIDN'T rhyme some of the lines, or varied it--EFFECTIVE. i was actually thinking about writing a tune with NO rhyming lines after the one i'm working on...never done that, aint done allot...hell maybe for a reason. . .

Bill,Your post sure didn't entice me to listen, but I listened anyway .. guess me and Warren are the only ones who like it. lol I like it. Really like the hook line. Lyric is pretty good, not your best, but pretty good. Vocal is real good, imo. Liked the solos. Liked that it was a kinda of a happy and peppy tune. The thing that I liked least was the back beat/track seemed too repetitious .. kinda grated on me after awhile. Maybe you could break from that 'feel' more often? Didn't bother me quite as much after the solo and harmonica. DeanPS Where is 'left of the dial' .. I don't get the ref?

I agree with Dean, you have a major staccato mix going on here. Good lyrics and the progression is cool, but the rhythm is a Bella Lugosi, man. Also, on a second listen, I would limit it to just two "Good bye . . . good bye's. This is especially clear during the outro when you just want to hear two good bye's instead of three.Hope that makes sense,Wig

hey dean--left of the dial IMHO is kinda OFF the dial and viewed as a bit of quirk, and a bit of jerk, and a bit of unrecognized, all that, and DIFFERENT and maybe not a "fit in" type casted dude.... it's bill's tune, but that's what i got and more actually, made perfect sense to me...LOLthe best,wh

hey Bill... I definitely dig this... My immediate impression when the song started was that I can definitely picture this on the radio...To me, this is one of the most radio popular kinda track U've written so far...I love the bassline... the feel, the melody, the guitar solo... oh yes, the middle 8 kicks ass too...The only thing I would point out is coming to the end of the track... maybe after the 3/4 mark, U might wanna vary the drumbeat a little... it gets just slightly repetitive towards the end... a little variation would be cool...Very interesting track this one...-Kel

Well. at least I found a couple people who like it (sort of!)Can't do anything with the beat because it's just an old hip hop loop I had . . . no variation.Dean, "left of the dial" (google it) is a term that's used a lot for a place where stuff resides (usually music) that doesn't fit in.

Aaaaaah, left of the dial is a music reference .. no wonder I didn't get it. lol Actually, it is 'intuitive' enough that I did know what you meant, even though I did not know that it was a (semi)popular reference.Dean

Bill, I'm never a good judge of your music, I always think it's awesome. lol I'm fairly certain you could play chopsticks backwards to the lyric of Mary Had a Little Lamb and I would think it was brilliant. I like how you turned a crappy week into a positive song. Groovy.Andy
