Lyrics Review: I Say Never

Post by ruralrocker2010 » Tue Jan 04, 2011 6:47 am

I think I initially posted this in the wrong place.

But, thought I would try putting them here.

I've read a bunch of posts and just joined a couple of days ago. I thought I would start with a song review and just see what happens.\\ It's call "I Say Never"//

Locked inside my head, everything I knew I left
stranded so far away, tucked inside without a key

held captive by my thoughts, never a release
compromised with him who steals my peace

(pre-chorus)
It's with regret I say I don't understand
It's not a matter of how or if, or even when

(chorus)
that I say never
that I say again
that I say never
again...

doors to wisdom and locks on thought
all run from me I don't know where I've gone
you sew and I reap nothing left but sleep
all my tears have the sweetest taste

pre-chorus
chorus
break
chorus

a very not professional recording of it can be found here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SaFKoGwdZE

Hi
Very Goo-Goo Dolls! It could definitely be produced as an 'a la' Goo Goo Dolls track. Catchy hook! 8-) :D

I think the verse lyrics need some element of storyline to support the "I Say Never" hook. That being said, Goo Goo Dolls songs tend to be pretty abstract. But I do think you could do more here.

Also, you could even out the syllable count a little-- some phrases seem a little too full.

Best,
:) Casey

My wife said the same thing!

I agree about the syllable count. It could be evened out. The funny thing is, this has a very specific meaning, but I always wonder how much to reveal. My brother always makes the comment that I always give just enough for you to not be certain what I mean...which could be good or bad I guess!

Thank you for the review.

Hi Joshua,

I really like the sentiment, the chorus. IMHO, I would say go ahead and be specific and detailed enough so that people can share the experience, good or bad. I feel something profound in the chorus but I'm not sure what I and want to understand where I am as a listener.

That's just my 2 cents but, good lyric. I like it.

Best,
Jon

Thanks man. I've not done anything since I got my monitors. I almost feel like I wasted the money because I'm not mixing, I'm not recording I'm not even writing...just got a lot going on I guess!
