lyrics/screeing question

Post by thesucker » Thu Sep 21, 2006 2:36 am

Hi all, I just joined taxi, and I'm pretty excited. There is one concern I have though...do all songs really have to have a story line? My lyrics don't really wallop people like that...and actually, i'm not a fan of those kinds of lyrics..."I love you, you shouldn't have cheated, how bad I was treated, etc., blah" So maybe it was mistake to do taxi. Probably not though...better than blowing in video poker or something. So...uh...here's a song where the lyrics are more for sake of imagery or something...is it dead in the water?:I saw you on your wayburning up your tracksanother bold idearunning from your pastfree to choose your cold hard pathoh the idle hell you makegreen on red are all you seeand all we are is greywe’re a scara road sign that you pass tearing at your wheels and stepping on the gassitting at that burning lightlike silent breaking glassfalling off and getting up,but too afraid to passThanks much for any input!

Sorry about the poll. I don't know how to get rid of it now. Hopefully, you'll go easy it being my first post and all.

Regarding the lyrics (not the poll)... you know I'd really have to hear the music. I can see that these might have potential depending on the genre & groove. I like the imagery, but the different images don't always connect to mean something.I saw you on your wayburning up your tracks (since "I" is the object of this sentence, it sounds like the singer is 'burning up' the other person's tracks)another bold idearunning from your past(YOU'RE) free to choose your cold hard pathoh the idle hell you make (how?)green on red IS all you seeand all I AM is grey (why are you grey? why does it matter?)I'M a scara road sign that you pass (WHILE YOU"RE) tearing at your wheels and stepping on the gassitting at that burning lightlike silent breaking glass (how is a burning light like breaking glass)falling off and getting up, (this image isn't clear)but too afraid to pass (how can she pass if she's stopped at a light?)my favourite part is:I'M a scara road sign that you pass (WHILE YOU"RE) tearing at your wheels and stepping on the gasThis is a really powerful image and expresses this feeling so well. I suggest you look for that kind of clarity in the rest of the lyric. warmlyHummin'bird

Thanks a lot for your input! I'm curious for this stuff! The subject stuff you mention I probably don't really get...mainly because it seemed to me that "I saw you" kind of sets it up to be the author reflecting on the you of the that sentence. And yeah, the "falling off and getting up" thing is a REACH. And yeah, the "Silent breaking glass" might be a little too art school. Thanks again for you input!
