Great and positive discussion. What is amazing too is it's not just your own drive and determination, hard work etc, to get you to 6 figures; with Taxi you have a powerful group of talented creative people, all rooting for each other, helping, and encouraging.

It's exponential magnification!

One of the books I've read in the last few years discussed the idea of focusing on the process, not the product.

For us finding our way in production music, the process is focusing in on learning all the skills necessary to produce broadcast quality tracks.

I believe if our focus is on the product (forward, deal, placement, royalty check) before we become adept at the process, it could potentially lead to going down the road of great frustration.

The product for our purposes is simply the outcome of become very good at the process.

And, the product, especially the financial rewards, can take years to show up.

To stay the course, I believe it is important to find joy in the process.

I'll chime in here. I'm not one of those 6 figure guys fiirst off.

I've seen one of them post some earnings and they got like 4,000 works in libraries and like 600 were bringing in money. By works could be cues or tracks I'm guessing.

So if you want to make 6 figures you will need to be very fast and produce large volume while still keeping a high quality. Also as someone said these guys know what the industry wants and they know how to produce it.

I've been at this now for a little over 2 years. made just $750 but thats ok as it does take time to start bringing in money from placements. but I dont produce high volume and I don't plan on doing that so I've come to the conclusion film/tv is not really for me. But that's ok I enjoy producing music and thats the main thing. I have a day job that pays the bills.

All the best! 8-)

This makes a lot of sense.

One of th ways that people increase their volume is by doing co-writes. They may only get half or less of the royalties, but they have more songs out in the market working for them. It does take a lot of songs making a little money for most people that make $100,000 or more a year from music licensing.

I don't know that collaboration necessarily increases your output, though it does provide some motivation to finish things. What collaboration does is put your work in the catalogs of more than one author. Even if you don't have two composers actively submitting it, it helps the odds if it happens to fit a request either collaborator gets.
